Conservatives afraid of debating? Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder literally made their careers on their willingness to debate thousands. Name me famous leftists who go to a college campus and are willing to be challanged by conservative students.

To answer your question, Conservatives have always wanted debate but they have always wanted it under their framing and under their terms. Why do you think that every "debate" that involves conservatives consists of 10+ people covering 30+ topics under a less than 1 hour timeframe and directly limits the amount of research that can be conducted during the debate. They know that as long as the conversation is uncoordinated and "quippy" they have the advantage. Especially, if they convince you that they dictate what is considered factual or civil.
