Are "generational curses" real? The best answer to this question I've ever found is in the story of Josiah. I read my Bible for nearly 30 years before I made this connection. Stick with me until the end, the payoff is huge.

No. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. No demon is more powerful than the gospel of Jesus Christ. Habitual sin, tendencies toward addiction, are rooted in a sinful heart. Heart desires driven by a mind that needs to be renewed daily.

King Manasseh's story is strangely comforting because it shows us the Lord's immense desire to forgive and restore us. No human can match this, outside of grace. 2 Chronicles 33 telĺs the story. Manasseh had a God-fearing father, King Hezekiah, and he had seen God work miracles in his father's life. But he chose such a wicked, wicked path, it's almost as if he had a passion to dishonor God in every way possible. Worse, his spiritual rebellion misled the whole nation of Judah into debased sin even worse than the pagan nations God had driven out of the Promised Land through the wars of Joshua. "The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention." His heart was so hard against God, the Lord allowed him to be taken captive by the king of Assyria, who used hooks and chains to haul him to Babylon in shame. Somehow, in prison, in chains, in humiliation, Manasseh didn't grow even more bitter, but had the grace to repent and ask God for help: 2 Chronicles 33: 12-13 — "When he was in distress, he entreated the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. "When he prayed to Him, He was moved by his entreaty and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem to his kingdom. "Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God." Restored to his place, King Manasseh devoted his remaining years to undo the damage he had done to his nation, including he "set up the altar of the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings and thank offerings on it; and he ordered Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel." When I get tripped up with self-condemnation, King Manasseh's story turns my mind and my heart back to my King Jesus, whose love and forgiveness are so quick, so pure, so far beyond my understanding. And He tells me to forgive others just as He has forgiven me. That's freedom.

@howertonjosh I would push back on 2 Chronicles 33:3 & 2 Kings 21:3 host of heaven meaning astrology. 1 Kings 22:19 God spoke to the host of heaven asking all of them who will entice Ahab. Psalm 82 refers to them as the divine council, but the same. They are beings, not stars.

Psalm 61:5 — "You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name." That verse shows me that Christ sets me free from my natural inheritance of sin & dysfunctional patterns handed down in my family's generations. So many treasures hidden in the Bible for us to find & walk in! Praise God.

That was a good find. I did listen to the podcast while at the gym. Quick question: Does this mean that God puts who you have chosen as "spiritual father" above the natural father, in the context of "generational curse"?

That's an awesome observation. And it's also awesome to think of how in a lot of ways, though we don't see Him, we're already standing before the Lord.

There is...a habit/morality formed by your folk will pass to the other. Someone who thinks weĺl enough won't follow it if it is bad, or if it is good then great. But a newborn, is a new being away fr those sins until he grows and makes his way.

I make it a point in my daily life to not be superstitious. Knocking wood, tempting fate, religion, black cats, ladders. These should not be part of an adult human being’s life.
