@catholiccom I’ve had friends convert but I’d also say avg family sizes in 1965 were at least 3-5 kids while today it is 0-2 kids

The issue is Catholics raising kids who stay Catholic. Catholic schools went from almost obligatory 50 years ago to only available to a shrinking number of families who can afford it. Why? They used to be run by nuns and priests. Where did all the nuns go, is the question.

Anecdotally, tons of people are. Not sure there is a source I would completely trust for the statistics of it though. Even if the census monitored that type of things that's not even that accurate.
