I just want to say, you are really good at articulating the nuances of the grey area in football.

Thanks Carl! There's this compliment I've been meaning to give you but... it can't be done in public.

Exactly how I feel. Almost word for word. Only have one caveat. I hear the “there are more than two coaches” but I actually think when most fans say “we shouldn’t have sacked Ange” what they mean is “for this” which is them saying the same thing you are saying at the end here.

Spot on. I was all in under Ange 'cause he truly believed we could play great football & be successful. The losses were painful, but he was always so sure success would come. Frank is consistently trying to tell us more won't come & that we should be settling. Fuck that. Fuck him

I agree but I have to admit, I hated last season's league performances under Ange cos it felt so unnecessary. It was idealistic to a fault and in the most stubborn way. Ange had to go but Frank was not the right man to replace him. Again we've lurched from one extreme to another

@JontyEvans I get this, I do. But he was trying to create a culture and you do that by stating your principles and sticking to them, especially when things get hard. Which is what he did. The club responded by firing him - telling every player and coach that our club is not about glory.

Фото профиля Nathan

@JontyEvans I have no issue with him sticking to his principles. The issues were in the details, he could not get them right - he wasn't even addressing them.

@JontyEvans Serious question- have you described the flaws somewhere? I’d like to understand what the issues were beyond the injuries and I don’t want to ask you to repeat yourself

I'm falling very out of love with football in general. The binary results business that football has become means that consolidation is rampant across the top flight. It might be me, but I feel like the beautiful game is becoming very ugly.

I have a feeling that the board was terrified based off last season that we would actually be in a relegation battle, and so the only objective this season would be to mitigate that risk entirely. I think Frank is working from that. Attacking and entertaining must come later.

Absolute bars man. Couldn’t agree more. Glad you have the platform you do, you represent us spurs fans very well.

Couldn’t agree more. We should never accept mediocrity, playing timid football. If mediocrity is to be thrust upon us - and really it ought not to be given the club’s resources - we should still strive to play football in keeping with the club’s ethos.

It feels like we went from the “Echos of glory” era to what ever is 2-3 tiers below. Such a disconnect to what Spurs were pre-Poch. People keep talking about Frank’s pragmatism, but he seems equally unwilling to change and equally dogmatic to his philosophy as Ange was.

Well, I am still one of those people, but also agree with that there are more than two managers in the world, and we just need to move on! As an Australian Spurs fan, really check out Kevin Muscat (just suspend your disbelief of Asian football or hating him as a player...)

The most important thing in football is to get results. Saying it’s okay to lose playing attractive football is a loser’s mentality. When you have shit forwards and zero creativity in midfield you have to find a different way to compete, which Frank is currently having to do.

Okay but that is not what I said

@THFC_Mastrigt We’ve hugely overcorrected going to Frank, I do think we have a serious player quality and ability issue which bottlenecks the efficacy of playing Frank/Ange-ball. Would 2 better CMs (with young boys rotating), A really good LW and a top Striker change things?

You’ve stumbled onto ENIC’s plan. They lose no value being in that position in the league. Values of football teams are going up. Why invest and try harder when the market can raise the value of the club. They just wait it out until a bid they like comes in and voila they sell.

Фото профиля Nathan
Nathan8 месяцев назад

They lose enormous value going from CL regulars to not.

It’s only the football that reeks of mid table, prices will need to follow if that’s the case. Do you think the wide scale changes across the board have ultimately affected as well? Feels bizarre saying it but maybe the “Tottenham way” went with Levy

This is the problem with spurs fans they would rather lose a lot of games and be embarrassed but play good football than win more and be respected but have to dark art games like Arteta and Jose in his prime weird confused bunch

I probably would take being successfull with worse football, but we aren‘t successfull. My definition of being successfull is competing for titles and winning some of them not being 13th instead of 17th. And with this type of football there is no way of being successfull.

Overall this only makes sense if the current style of play is the end goal. I don’t believe it is. I think the current approach is out of a necessity to pick up points until players return and we sign upgrades.

Been saying it, idc how messy it was back then, we tried to win and actually went into games wanting to play on the front foot. This season you could give us the ball for the full 90 and tell the opposition to lay on their stomachs and we’d still pass it backwards
