I think a lot of VTuber model prices feel inflated, mostly because there’s a huge gap between what bigger creators pay and what the average person can realistically afford. Plenty of artists offer fully rigged, high-quality models with solid features in the $500–$1k range. That price point is sustainable for both artists and clients, and it keeps work consistent. The issue is when prices double or triple while the quality doesn’t improve, or when key features smaller artists include are missing. At that point, people are being asked to pay more for less, and that’s not realistic for most buyers. Prices have risen fast, but quality hasn’t always followed. Some artists raise rates after working with bigger creators, and newer artists copy those prices thinking it’s the norm, even without a portfolio to match. Most people just aren’t willing to pay triple anymore. I’m a painter in real life, and some of my pieces take months. Even so, I price my work based on what my community can reasonably afford. If I charged three times that, I wouldn’t expect steady commissions. High-budget prices exist—but they’re usually for corporate clients, not everyday buyers.

As someone with a professional office job, who has dabbled in rigging, here's some context. 1 hour of my time as an IT professional is roughly $150 USD (as a consultant). That means at my rates, a $1,000 model is roughly 7 hours of work. The initial sketch ALONE can take days. Let alone the rest. Market dictates price, but compared to me (I am excellent at what I do and worth the price), model's seem like a steal 🤣🤣

It's kind of a lose lose situation. The amount of work is astronomical but there is also the part where people currently are struggling to even make it through each month, so it outprices many, which understandably makes them lean to premades. Rough situation all around tbh.

I m curious about all the software is used to make a model. We see artist streaming, creating, drawing, animated etc but when a neophyte ask about the software use, even the price of the software etc, it's hard to have an answer 😊

Usually it’s Clip studio paint or Photoshop for the art and Live2D for the rig! <3

Someone who hasn't tried it themselves doesn't know the pain it gives you (I did I'm still tired to this day)

100% agree with art in general, the price increases a lot with the quality of the work. Just a small increase in quality can make the price increase x2

as someone who is also making and rigging her own model, I too can confirm they are not overpriced.. it’s very hard work and on multiple occasions I have definitely wanted to give up !!! People that make livings off of creating VTuber models are incredible….

I don't think VTuber models are overprized. My model was relatively inexpensive, but then again, it’s nowhere near as elaborate as many others. Personally, I love it, and it suits me perfectly. In the process of researching VTubing, I learned how much effort, skill, and expertise are necessary to create a VTuber model, from the design and artwork to the cutting, rigging, poses, and more. It’s not just the hours that go into it, but also the effort needed to learn the skills associated with it. I work a similar day job that I trained extensively for, so I understand and am completely fine with professional rates for skilled work.

I would say no since there's a lot of work that goes into making them. Affordability might be something else though. Price is high for most streamers I believe, but at the same time, the person should get paid for their work. It's a tricky situation but that's just my opinion.

Theres such a mental disconnect between like "I could do that with time" and "I would want to be compensated for that time" Like I make my own models all the time and I would hate to charge a lot if I ever do commissions but also a week at minimum if rushing of work needs pay

I never really understood the v-tuber models, they are so wildly complicated to make and rig to fake it being kinda 3D, and i just think - "surely it would be easier to make a 3D model at this point?"

The price is defined mostly by the time the artist needs to make the model, and how much talented the artist is. I mean, if I can make the same model in a week or a month depending how much I am experienced on using the software tools, do the price have to be different? And the market is king here, if your prices aren't affordable you either can choose to sell only to the fewe who can affort it or lower it to appeal a larger segment of potential buyers. Your choice. As a buyer, I will choose the best I can afford and that's it.

You are taking the time of an expert that they can't spend on anything but your project. It's only natural that this kind of bespoke commission work is going to cost a lot. You're getting a one of a kind product from a very rare kind of artist.

As someone who made their own model ya the price is fair and that’s without counting concept designing honestly vtuber models are fairly priced for what you get

As someone currently working on their own model from scratch for the first time, I 100% agree that the price range is fair. If you want a quality model made by a professional you will pay accordingly. Artists need to pay the bills too! 💙

Its a lot of work. Looking at Live2D, I can see the extensive rigging and ‘parts’ you have to put to gether and calibrate. Even more than vroid!

No no no, high quality models are much higher than 1k to 3k. You’re talking at least 8k to 20k, for a high quality model. Or at least as some artists believe you should pay that much for their models.
