Argentinian A-4 Skyhawks fly at wave top level while under fire as they make their bombing runs against British ships off of San Carlos during the Falklands Island War in 1982. These guys had absolute balls of steel.

An old friend was there as a young Royal Marine. He told me even after all these years the sound of those jets screaming still makes his blood run cold. Glad you came home Gordon.

Argentinian pilots re-written the whole assumptions of naval warfare as imagined by Royal Navy in a false belief ... HMS Sheffield & others bore the brunt of exocet with A-4 daredevil bombing runs 🏃♂️ adding fuel to the fire !

From what I read most of their bombs couldn't activate due to them flying too low and so they were mostly duds.

volveremos

Huevos e inteligencia. Todo alineado.

Dont fuck with the Brits

These were intense battles with lose of life on both sides. According to Grok-"Were any ships hit by the bombs and did any aircraft get shot down? Yes. During the low-level A-4 Skyhawk attacks around San Carlos Water (“Bomb Alley”) from 21–25 May 1982, several British ships were struck by bombs, and a number of the attacking aircraft were shot down. HMS Ardent was hit by multiple bombs from Navy A-4Qs on 21 May; some detonated, causing fires and flooding that sank the frigate the next day with 22 killed. HMS Argonaut took two unexploded 1,000 lb bombs the same day and was badly damaged. On 23 May HMS Antelope was hit by two unexploded bombs from Air Force A-4Bs; one detonated while being defused and the ship sank. On 25 May HMS Coventry was hit by three exploding 500 lb bombs from A-4Bs and sank with 19 killed; HMS Broadsword was also struck by an unexploded bomb that passed through the ship. Several landing ships received unexploded bombs as well. Many weapons failed to arm because they were released at wave-top and failed to arm. Multiple A-4s were lost in these same raids. Sea Harriers shot down several with Sidewinders and cannon fire (notably two or three Navy A-4Qs after the Ardent attack on 21 May). Others were brought down by Sea Dart, Sea Wolf, Sea Cat, Rapier, Blowpipe, or ship and ground gunfire on 21, 23 and 25 May. Total Argentine aircraft losses in the five-day battle were around 22, including a substantial number of Skyhawks.

They attacked in groups of four and only two returned, and sometimes only one.

They targeted the warships instead of the supply ships.

Great bravery

Indeed, but getting neutered came as a surprise.

Yet still, they lost.

The bombs were not fused correctly. But the impact caused plenty of damage.

HEROES. Las Malvinas son Argentinas.

@CcibChris They had Balls of steel yes but they also had some 5 minutes loitering time over the British fleet before packing the attack up & heading back to the mainland 400 miles away otherwise they would have to ditch in the ocean. Hence after their runs the A4s were very vulnerable.

What a tragic waste of human life over a rocky outcropping. Why not just play a winner take all soccer match instead.

Also helped that they practiced on the same ships that we sold them so knew how to get under the radar system

Viva la patria! Malvinas Argentinas 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷

So did the A-4 drivers in Vietnam. My Sarratogo CO spent 6 years in the Hanoi Hilton. John McCain was a resident there also. So were others.

My cardiologist of old was one of those pilots, the flight surgeon. He ha a large painting of one of these attacks in his waiting room. Great guy.

Volveremos!!!

And zero weaponeering training. Idiots.

Their balls got clipped pretty quickly thereafter.

@IAFsite must recognice this balls

And fortunately for the UK, bombs that didn't.
