Thank you for this insight. My natural go to reaction when I see a TM (particularly the v young ones) is that she is a victim of homophobia, internalised or external. But I’m also v aware that women can be manipulative and cruel and why shouldn’t this extend to TMs?

Don’t forget the deliberate use of gaining sympathy and appealing to emotion to manipulate. And they are good at it. But also men are typically bad at recognising this kind of manipulation especially when women like this deliberately tap into “protect the teen boy” instinct. The whole reason why there’s a sexist trope that women manipulate with their emotions is because this is pretty much the only way - the only weapon - they have against men. We absolutely do need to recognise her and women like her are behaving in a predatory manner. That their behaviour is extremely narcissistic, manipulative and selfish. We can do that while recognising they are also victims and all the other stuff as well. But it still matters. And I do think we men need to educate other men on recognising how different people - men and women - emotionally manipulate and actively “recruit” because we are bad at this.

This is really interesting. Youngest said one of the girls at his school who larped as a boy used it to bully anyone not going along with it. At the same time I have written about a girl who was hyper-sexualised in “gay” mens spaces and clearly a lot of straight men were using her for anal sex.

Yes, they are rare, and yes, they exist and she is one. Maybe there is some heartbreaking origin story there. There usually is. But the world isn't neatly divided in villains and victims. Whatever her claim on the second category, she put herself into the first. That's on her.
