Yes, large files such as games are expected to be downloaded occasionally and kept on the device for a longer time. This does not put as much strain on the read/write cycles of the SSD as repeated downloading of mods would.

Funny how other games have zero issues with downloads.

Mods are updated by modders often, sometimes multiple times a day, requiring frequent downloads. In contrast, games update less frequently due to platform submission processes, resulting in far less strain on SSD read/write cycles.

But it doesn't make logical sense. If I download 180 GB of mods once, I won't have to keep deleting and redownloading them. Constantly writing and deleting is more damaging to an SSD than a single download.
