A father and son in northwest Houston tried to sell an e-bike through Facebook Marketplace and ended up getting robbed at gunpoint and losing their truck in the process - the suspect reached out using what the family believes was a fake profile under the name Jason Talaria, got them to meet up near Oak Forest Drive and West 43rd Street, then followed them back to their own home to complete the deal. Once they got there the suspect asked to test ride the bike, the father refused and said pay first, and that’s when this guy reached into his backpack, pulled out a handgun, and took everything - the e-bike key, the truck key, and then drove off in their truck. License plate TXB-0156 and HPD is actively investigating. This could have been avoided entirely by doing the transaction at a police station - most departments across the country have designated safe exchange zones in their parking lots specifically for Marketplace meetups and this is exactly why they exist. What would you have done differently? Never bring a stranger to your home, never let a buyer pressure you on location, and if something feels off trust that feeling because your gut is usually right. If you recognize this suspect contact HPD immediately.

They alleged that the men repeatedly hit their father with a gun before forcing the family into a vehicle and driving away. According to them, after noticing their father's condition had become critical, the men stopped, prompting some villagers to gather and ask what was happening.
