NEW: 18 Army Rangers have reportedly been suspended for firing off blanks during the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival off Crab Island in Florida. Boaters and swimmers reportedly took cover at the sound of gunshots. “As part of Friday night’s festival schedule, soldiers from the 6th Ranger Training Battalion at Camp Rudder were to engage in a mock ‘sea battle’ with Billy Bowlegs as his boat approached the Fort Walton Beach Landing. This ‘battle’ involved the soldiers firing blanks from their weapons,” the city said. “The Army is aware of the incident that occurred at Crab Island,” said public affairs director at the Maneuver Center of Excellence & Fort Benning. “We take this situation seriously and are investigating. The Army will ensure accountability based on the outcome.” It’s unclear what exactly prompted the incident.

Some stories about honoring our service members are national. Some are deeply personal, like this one. Charles Albert Walker, IV was my daughter’s husband and the father of my first grandchild. On May 19, 2019, he lost his battle with service related PTSD. The story of his final months and the impact his absence has had on his children deserves its own space. For now, I want to focus on his service and the ultimate sacrifice he made for our freedoms. He served with the 2D Combat Engineer Battalion, 2D Marine Division. Al Qaim, Iraq – 2006 Ramadi, Iraq – 2007 Bagram, Afghanistan – 2011 Meritoriously promoted, Charles earned the rank of Staff Sergeant in just nine years, a testament to his leadership, discipline, and dedication to the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Combat Engineer, later as a Military Police officer on the Special Reaction Team (the USMC’s version of SWAT), before becoming a recruiter, where he continued to shape and influence the lives of future Marines. Beyond his service, Charles was a lover of travel and adventure. He sang in the church choir, worked with the youth, and found meaning in reading and writing. He was an outdoor enthusiast, an extremely hard worker, and a man who gave his best in everything he did. Above all else, Charles was an incredible father. If you know a service member or veteran, please reach out. Call them. Text them. Ask them about their memories, their experiences, and their lives. Sometimes simply being seen, heard, and remembered can be life saving.

Richard Gere explains why "Babette’s Feast" (1987) is one of his favourite movies: "One of my all-time favorites is 'Babette’s Feast' (1987). It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why. It’s very pure. It’s not tricky at all; the filmmaking is almost invisible. I think for the most part, it feels like there are non-actors in the piece — although I’m sure they’re actors — but it’s not an actor-y piece at all. It’s just beautifully conceived with a really generous heart at its center. It just really moves me, I saw it again last week. It holds up; it’s the purity and the simplicity of it. And the sentiment of community and excellence. The idea of excellence and generosity as real things. Something, obviously, that’s in danger these days. The idea of truth and excellence and compassion. And kind of a willingness to accept the other. Forgive. So I think it’s a really deep, timeless film." But it never explains what hotness actually feels like. "Science doesn't actually give a theory of the conscious feeling of hotness." This is what Chalmers calls the Hard Problem of Consciousness. I posted a few weeks ago what happened to me last time I was trying to have a session at the local cemetery. I wasn’t getting many voices that time however I kept having equipment malfunctions and the fresh batteries were absolutely drained. It was almost if they didn’t want to be heard. This young lady was having a spirit box session at her local cemetery, and getting many responses, some of which scared her. She was fine up until one of them said her name. I’ve always believed that they are always present and just can’t be seen. They get to know us and our names and such, it’s kind of eerie knowing or feeling like I am being watched at all times. There are people who believe the voices are real but feel it has to be a negative entity pretending to be a person. I can say that I have no explanation for this. However when running the spirit box in reverse it’s hard to ignore when I get full sentences to my question. I’ve always felt that since we are made of energy and energy never dissipates, I think the essence or spirit of a person can linger, and that explains the voices or things moving and hauntings. I would love to hear your explanation to what these are or whether you believe in it or not. For the time being I do believe they are spirits, however I am clueless as to why they would be hanging around a cemetery as if stuck in limbo.

This young lady was having a spirit box session at her local cemetery, and getting many responses, some of which scared her. She was fine up until one of them said her name. I’ve always believed that they are always present and just can’t be seen. They get to know us and our names and such, it’s kind of eerie knowing or feeling like I am being watched at all times. There are people who believe the voices are real but feel it has to be a negative entity pretending to be a person. I can say that I have no explanation for this. However when running the spirit box in reverse it’s hard to ignore when I get full sentences to my question. I’ve always felt that since we are made of energy and energy never dissipates, I think the essence or spirit of a person can linger, and that explains the voices or things moving and hauntings. I would love to hear your explanation to what these are or whether you believe in it or not. For the time being I do believe they are spirits, however I am clueless as to why they would be hanging around a cemetery as if stuck in limbo.

This is a fascinating video that I think will surprise a lot of people because it highlights the extent to which the political scene evolved in France. Le Pen - the father - was actually very pro-Iran and pro-Palestinian. As you can see in this video - dated from 2009 - he was invited by the Zahra center (a pro-Iran lobby group that's since been shut down by the French authorities: to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Le Pen describes himself as a committed "friend of Iran" because he always "sided with free nations that do not accept the diktat of other countries." He even supported the Iranian nuclear industry, saying that "Iran has the same rights as any other country in the world and if there are voices hostile to nuclear weapons they must start first by disarming those who acquired them, often secretly, in total violation of UN rules" (meaning, of course, Israel). He also said he "breathed a huge sigh of relief" that Bush didn't attack Iran. On Gaza (there was yet another Gaza conflict in 2009) he said he "was shocked to see that the great silence of world opinion, and even of Arab and Muslim opinion, when this small country was crushed," describing it as "a real concentration camp." Fair disclaimer: these views had nothing to do with anything even resembling a progressive embrace of Muslims or multiculturalism. The man was virulently anti-immigration and hostile to multiculturalism at home. It's hard to understand today because hating foreigners at home now somehow requires hating them abroad too - but back then, "Muslims out of France, long live Iran" could make sense. And funnily, in France and much of the West, Jean-Marie Le Pen's foreign policy views (not the domestic ones) are now firmly associated with the far left. Heck in France's case they're too extreme for even Mélenchon's LFI party to embrace: even they are calling Iran a "theocratic and predatory regime", and are siding with the protesters ( As for Le Pen's party today, led by his daughter, these views are basically everything they now stand AGAINST: today they're firmly pro-Israel, framing it as a civilizational ally against Islamism. When Le Pen - the father - spoke of his fear of Iran being attacked by the Americans, his party under his daughter are now openly cheering for it. Marine Le Pen said, after the June strikes on Iran: "The strikes that aim to specifically destroy Iranian nuclear sites must be applauded. One can only rejoice that this Islamist dictatorship, which has threatened Israel on multiple occasions, does not obtain nuclear weapons" ( Basically celebrating precisely what her father said he "breathed a huge sigh of relief" didn't happen under Bush. As we live through politics day to day, we often fail to notice the changes - but when you step back, you can see the absolutely seismic shift in the political landscape in just one generation.

Jordan Peterson on why you must never give yourself an "easier" task to avoid the hard one: Peterson explains a psychological trap that almost everyone falls into when facing something difficult. "Don't practice what you do not want to become." He describes what happens inside your brain when you're avoiding a hard task: "If you're really sneaky when you're trying to do something hard, what your brain does is give you something else hard to do that's not quite as hard, so that you can feel justified in not doing the thing you're supposed to 'cause you're doing something else useful." This is the trap. You feel productive. You're busy. But you're not doing the thing. And every time you give in, you make it worse: "If you give into that temptation which you often will, then it wins. And because it wins, it gets a little dopamine kick and it grows stronger. Anything you let win the internal argument grows. And anything you let be defeated shrinks, because it's punished." This is Peterson describing neurology: "Those are neurological circuits. You build those things in there. They're not going anywhere. You can build another little machine to inhibit them. That's the best you can do. Once they're in there, you can't get them out." Even the circuits you build to resist the bad habit aren't permanent: "The ones you build to inhibit can be taken out by stress and the old habits will come back up." So what's the actual lesson? Every time you dodge the hard thing, you're casting a vote for the version of yourself that avoids hard things. You're wiring that pattern deeper into your brain.
