It happened outside the Netto supermarket in the Friedrichstadt district of the city, where there was a stand-off between police and the 41-year-old known criminal, who was reportedly shouting "Allahu Akbar." After he shot first, police returned fire, hitting the man multiple times. He is understood to be receiving treatment in the city hospital.

A trooper and a civilian, a former Marine, fired their weapons and struck the gunman, who was later identified as Tyler Brown, multiple times, according to Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan. Brown is under arrest and is hospitalized, Ryan said. He was under the supervision of probation for a previous crime, according to the DA.
