The amount of energy needed to escape Earth's gravity is insane.

Don't the solid rocket boosters burn from the center of the booster outward toward the casing? They burn a solid propellant, not a liquid.

That animation is a lie. The fuel in the SRBs gets used from the bottom up, or more accurately, from the central core out to the walls.

That is not how solid rocket boosters burn fuel.

The escape velocity (break-away speed to leave Earth, including through the atmosphere) is 40,270 km/h.This is the minimum speed needed from Earth's surface (sea level) to escape the planet's gravity forever. (Exact value: 11.186 km/s × 3,600 = 40,269.6 km/h, rnd. 40,270 km/h.)

I think your solid rocket fuel is moving in the wrong direction. Doesn't it burn from the bottom up?

A gas cylinder, and the only thing that goes into space is the valve.

They will need to refuel pretty soon. 🤣

Where did the boosters land ?

Slave to the rocket equation. Want to go further faster or w/ more payload? You need more propellant. But then you need more propellant to help overcome the weight of the initial propellant. And then you need more for the extra. Repeat over and over. Laws of diminishing returns.

The fuel, LH₂, in orange and the oxidiser, LOx, in blue.

@jordioriolserra This is bullshit, man. Your graph for speed keeps increasing yet from halfway on, the altitude increment starts slowing down. Shut your account down, you pathetic clanker

In the first 120 seconds, she's eating over 20,000 lbs of propellant per second 🚀

The New Artemis Architecture (2026 Update) NASA recently restructured the program to rely more heavily on SpaceX to solve delays with the SLS and Orion heat shield.

Rockets seems so inefficient. You are just carrying all that fuel

According to Grok, even allowing for the ~480,000 miles traveled by this rocket, it only gets 2.7 mpg. hmmm

Those tanks must suck a massive vacuum. What is the formula for the change in fuel burn due to decreasing weight, gravity and air resistance?

Фото профиля James III

Technically the solid rocket burn from the other direction and all at once.
