The Orion spacecraft successfully separated from the upper stage of the rocket, and the "proximity operations" test is underway. The Artemis II astronauts are manually piloting Orion similarly to how they would if they were docking with another spacecraft.

Last week, we showed you all four RS-25 engines installed on the NASA Artemis III rocket core stage. Now see all the work behind the scenes. These engines will help launch the Orion spacecraft and its crew into low Earth orbit, generating more than two million pounds of thrust at liftoff.

BREAKING: NASA has launched four astronauts on a mission to circle the Moon, marking the first human journey back to deep space in 54 years, and the farthest distance from Earth humans will have ever traveled to date. The four astronauts on this Artemis II mission will travel 600,000 miles around the moon. During their 10-day trip, they’ll test life support systems in the Orion capsule for future crewed missions to the moon’s surface. A moon landing would occur during Artemis III, which is currently targeted to launch sometime in 2027.
