The worst part is I used to think “we’re in the clouds” meant cozy. Now I know it means the pilot is flying by instruments and praying the runway appears before the ground does. Shorter option: I was fine not knowing. Now every landing is going to feel like a plot twist.

My nightmare’s triggered cuz as a passenger I love the no visibility through the clouds but I guess I’d imagined the planes had special headlights or something through the clouds. I know they got radars scanning but this is still like operating in the dark 😢

Most landings are instrument guided. It does not matter what pilot sees ahead unless he has taken full manual control of the plane, which only happens in extreme emergency situations.

I’m so confused. What is the concern? Is it going through the clouds? He breaks out under the clouds way before landing. Or is it the little wiggle while lining up for the runway? I assure you that’s all dialed in.

Just look up "ILS" and "cat3 ILS". Pilots literally don't need to see anything nowadays. Planes practically fly themselves at the airport's doorstop and pilot just lands them (soon to be landing themselves). Perfectly safe and relaxed 😌

Took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to realize we were supposed to be thinking about the lack of visibility and not marveling at the beauty of nature.

From the rapid left turn at the end, it's obvious that the video is sped up.

How is this scary? They break out of cloud exactly on center line and on the appropriate height. It’s clear that the navigation system works great and keeps you safe.

A commercial airliner is not a fighter jet - if it wasn't sped up 10x you'd realize he could see the runway for minutes not seconds. Less scary in real time. 😂 (But that's what instruments are for regardless. He was deadass on glide path the whole time, peep the PAPIs. 👍✈️)

The plane is flying itself. It knows exactly where it’s going and at what rate to descend. The pilot doesn’t take control until the last 2,000 feet or so. There is literally nothing scary about this
