As a woodworker, I absolutely hate this. Instead of bringing the original top back to life, they decided to go with brand new walnut that probably cost $2000 and decided to beat the shit out of it to create the same effect. If you have an old antique piece,...

This is dumb. Definitely should have simply restored. Also, do ppl actually cut red onion, or any onion for that matter, straight on the wood? 😷

So many things wrong with this. Original top could’ve been refinished and would’ve been perfectly fine and looked way better than this. Would’ve been way cheaper. Also nobody cuts, red onion, or any food directly on their countertop because the maintenance on that would be miserable and it would never look very good. Think of how your cutting boards look after a year of use.

Beautiful newly milled walnut ruined. Plenty of reclaimed material that could of have used or simply sand back the original top and stained dark walnut if you’re going for that color. Would’ve made it much more authentic looking.

Based on the usage, they could have saved a bunch of money by just going with standard butcher block if they weren’t keeping the original.

100%. They also put the frame back around so all they had to do was sand back the original top stain at dark walnut and Presto. You have a new countertop that already has patina.

Idk. The whole thing is odd. Textbook designer spec-ing random shit that doesn’t make sense.
