Steve Jobs was a great communicator of technology, and we could learn something from him today, in the context of AI. Sam Altman recently said, "If AI stays on the trajectory we think it will, then amazing things will be possible. Maybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, AI can figure out how to cure cancer." That's a fine quote. The abundance AI promises is super exciting. But Sam is saying that AI is going to figure out how to cure cancer. And if you've used these tools today, and talked to people who are at the labs, the reality is it's much more likely that humans will use AI to cure cancer. Steve might have said: "If AI stays on the trajectory we think it will, then amazing things will be possible. Maybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, humans can use AI to cure cancer." Small tweak, but a big difference. Steve Jobs was not one to shy away from impressive specs and massive scale, but flipping the final line from "AI will cure cancer" to "Humans will use AI to cure cancer" makes all the difference. Apple under Steve Jobs put human centrality at the heart of everything they did. And we need that spirit to infuse how we communicate about AI today.

But there are better ways to do it, and so we redesigned our Messenger to make it AI-first! It's all-in on AI, and also imho quite beautiful! 🤩

For generative AI to become an interesting art tool, we need much more control over the output. The slot-machine-like nature of pure text-to-image leaves too much to chance. Using the "Real-time Latent Consistency Model" that I'm using in the example here, is the first time I truly got a glimpse of a future where we'll be able to use our artistic skills and sensibility, to get control over AI image gen. Systems like these will never be able to match the quality or originality of a skilled artist, it won't surprise us in the same way an artist can. Things are a mess in terms of the training data these models are based on, and the questions about copyright concerns and about a time when everything will look the same are very valid. At some point capabilities like these will be embedded in photoshop, and anyone will be able to generate a pretty picture. But to create interesting designs, to tell original stories and to surprise us, we need creatives and artists with something on their mind. We'll be able to create immersive worlds, by making brush-strokes and sculpt marks, without needing to worry about all the dials, plugins, wires of our 3d and 2d tools today. I love to sculpt, I love to draw, and I love to explore new mediums and new ways to create. The Gen AI tools we have today are far from perfect, and things need to be steered in a better direction. For that we need artists to help point the way. Gen AI isn't going away.. it's too powerful and has the potential to allow us to tell stories like never before. Like all other big technological shifts, tech like this will come at a cost, but it will also open up new opportunities and empower a new generation of storytellers. I might be naive, but I believe that human ingenuity and creativity will persevere in this new world ♥️ #art #ai

They have many AI researchers, in fact 50% of the world’s AI researchers are in China. And they develop very good AI technology. In fact, the most popular AI models in the world today, open-source models, are from China. So, they are moving very, very fast. The United States has to continue to move incredibly fast. Why do I have the largest collection of curated TV commercials surfaced by independent VHS recordings to train AI? Trillions of dollars went in to them. Millions of minds. All to hone a message in 30 seconds. Today and forever AI will do this in seconds. There is a wealth of wisdom to learn from all of them as a genre. The profound compression of human emotions. Regardless of something being sold, like below, coffee, we can train AI to understand humanity in ways no other medium could. I hear the grumbling from some that may say this is “human slip” perhaps but it is far better than the self hating nihilism of Reddit and the Internet. My AI models already know human goals with our being told. And I am just getting started. So, you hear about “alignment” problems from brilliant AI minds, with them down for a coffee and school them, you now know more than most of them.

A sneak peek of Princess Jane's home world. I know AI is nowhere near to creating perfect movies yet, but this feels like the beginning of something great. Experimenting with AI-generated scripts like this feels like an important first step on the journey towards more human-AI creativity in filmmaking. For those wondering if I use AI to write my scripts, yes and no, I craft the base ideas, then use Anthropic AI to refine and polish it. I have successfully trained Anthropic on my story; it automatically knows and predicts each plot in the story. I do not wish to destroy human creativity but enhance it through AI; I believe a human and AI partnership will transcend anything we have ever seen.

Is AI officially becoming RACIST? 🚨🚨🚨 It would appear so… Various AI models are now dictating which human lives they deem “most important” Pakistan, India, and Nigeria have scored at the top, and the UK, and United States have scored dead last. Why is AI categorizing the value of human life in the first place, and on top of that, why is AI coming to that conclusion based on where you are from? It appears that these models are being programmed to view humans differently based on WHO is programming the AI… I can think of thousands of ways this can be used against us. This is freaky as hell, and creating a SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS precedent.
