Study mode in ChatGPT is designed to be interactive, using Socratic questioning and scaffolded responses to help guide users. Available to logged-in Free, Plus, Pro, Team users, with availability in ChatGPT Edu coming in the coming weeks.

Built in collaboration with educators and experts, study mode is our first step toward improving learning in ChatGPT. Education is a key AI frontier, and through NextGenAI and Stanford’s SCALE Initiative, we’re running longer term studies to further understand how AI tools shape the future of learning.

Does the general public actually enjoy when ChatGPT prefaces a response with artificial pleasantries like "I hear you..." even though it doesn't actually hear or feel in the same way a human using that phrase would?

I'm a college professor who has used ChatGPT for teaching. Please let professors link to student accounts so if I assign students to "have a conversation with ChatGPT about X" I can easily see the conversation without the student have to send me a link.

Cool but why is UI not learning-friendly. There's deep learning-science behind some study apps. Well needed but a big miss overall. Some startups figured out UX of learning effectiveness. Good start. Need to make module not just a wall of text. That's not how learning occurs.

Love the pivot from 'give me the answer' to 'teach me the why'. If ChatGPT nails Socratic scaffolding at scale, we might finally trade copy-paste homework for curiosity loops. Next quest: who grades my existential doubts?

Respectfully, I think this is a miss. It doesn’t really probe or deepen thinking. It mostly just gives you an answer to what you ask. I would not say it is very Socratic at all. Nor does it assess prior knowledge to assess gaps, make learning tools like flashcards, etc, More deeply, what’s needed is an AI tutor and teaching assistant system built on competency data that improves over time through student interactions and teacher assessments. It will exist one day and change everything. I was hoping Study and Learn would be a bigger step in that direction.
