🏈 🔥 WATCH all the way through the end of this video to see spirited high school football players at South County High School exercise their civic duty to speak up for celebrated football coach Gerry Pannoni, who just lost his coaching job in a case of alleged retaliation in Fairfax County Public Schools. What’s more: FCPS allegedly shut down the South County football program and let go ALL of the coaches until a new coach is named and removed access to coach access to Hudl, a video platform, hurting students who are being recruited by colleges. In June 2024, I began reporting a local high school story for the Fairfax County Times Pearl Project with sports reporter G, and it became Virginia’s biggest youth sports scandal: controversial recruiting practices at Hayfield Secondary School in Fairfax County Virginia that led to a wider community reckoning on the issue of integrity in sports and calls for the resignation of fcpssupt Michelle Reid for her mishandling of the case. Today, at South County High School in Lorton, Va., about 300 football players, athletes and students streamed out of Door No. 1 at 2 PM to march on Laurel Crest Drive, shouting, “Reinstate Coach P.” Last year, Pannoni and other coaches raised red flags about alleged recruitment problems at Hayfield, and the school district official told coach Pannoni on Friday that he had lost his job. Parents and coaches say they are hearing that Reid is allegedly planning to retaliate against all the coaches for embarrassing her. FCPS denies the charge. FCPS sent a media relations officer to follow the march. He sat in the back of an FCPS security cruiser. FCPS Superintendent Reid investigated Pannoni for an audio tape with parents, indelicately describing the Hayfield recruiting as akin to “grooming.” We have learned that the principal had allegedly told Pannoni that students didn’t feel “safe”around the coach. BIG MOUNTAINS NEED BIG ACTION. This was K2 last year when our Nimsdai Foundation team, led by Elite Exped went to do the #BigMountainCleanUp. Yes, it is shocking. However, high altitude waste is a complex issue – some of it has been here decades. Waste and rubbish is a huge worldwide issue. From the plastics in the ocean to the land and rubbish clogging fields and hedges to the pollutants in the air and of course, on the mountain. We all need to play our small part in tackling this, and raising awareness globally. As a UNEP Mountain Advocate, I am proud to help raise awareness of the #BeatPlasticPollution movement – a campaign designed to raise the issue of waste from the grassroots to the Government and international level. The Big Mountain Clean Up is us playing our small part to protect and preserve these beautiful mountains not just for our generation but for generations to come. My Elite Exped team follow ‘clean as you go’ and ‘leave no trace’ protocols on all expeds and they are working with the Foundation and local guides to return to K2 this season to clean further. One key mission will be removing old ropes – these can be deadly if climbers accidently clip on to them. I believe that by working together we can bring about positive and lasting change. Part of that has to be education throughout all of society from people to Governments about waste and its effects on our home the Earth. This is Chris Konawel talking about how bad things are getting in Gloucester County with the folks running unchecked Here is his statement from FB: "I have decided to file a lawsuit against Gloucester County and the Board of Commissioners for allegedly violating my rights as your elected official. For too long, Gloucester County has run unchecked and has done whatever it wants to residents, employees, and even elected officials. After the events of the January 2nd, 2026 Reorganization Meeting — where I, as a duly elected County Commissioner, was precluded from doing my job and not allowed to ask questions on the resolutions in front of me — enough is enough. Let’s start with this: The County decided its elected officials didn’t deserve to receive information on what we were voting on until just hours before the meeting. We’re talking millions of dollars in contracts, dozens of appointments that affect every resident in this county, and the hiring of a new County Administrator. An administrator making more than any Governor in the country — more than the VICE PRESIDENT of the United States. And we were told we couldn’t ask questions. Several members of the public came to speak and were told they could not. Public comment was avoided. The unelected County Counsel rammed the meeting through — and by the way, his own contract had expired and was on that very agenda. It is my job as your elected official to ask questions that will affect this county for years. My job is not to sit idly by and allow things to be shoved through to the detriment of the people I represent. Because of this, I filed a lawsuit alleging violations of the Open Public Meetings Act. I am doing this pro se — on my own. With no college degree or experience. I had attorneys willing to take the case, but I felt the County shouldn’t be charged thousands more because of this nonsense. I am not seeking monetary relief. I’m not even asking for my $350 filing fee back. I’m doing this because residents deserve better. Think about this: In the five years I’ve been on this board, there has not been a single “no” vote by anyone other than myself and Commissioner Nick DeSilvio. No debate. No discussion. Just rubber stamping. Those of you who are married — and love your spouse — ask yourself this: Have you gone five years without a single disagreement? How can five elected officials not have one disagreement in five years? We all know the answer — and it’s not good. And instead of defending his own actions, the County Counsel — who makes well into six figures — could not defend himself against me, a high school graduate with no legal training. So the County hired one of the most expensive political attorneys in the state to justify what happened. Think about that. That’s like trying to kill a fly with a shotgun — but I guess it’s easy when it’s not your money. All I’m asking the Court to do is declare the meeting improper and order that it be conducted properly — with questions and public comment — because residents deserve transparency. Court is this Friday, February 13th I ask all of you: share this. Let residents know what is happening behind the scenes. Let’s take our government back to the people — where it belongs. I promised you I would always fight for you and for what’s right. This is another step in that direction. Below is the link to the YouTube video so you can see for yourself. Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs is observing #WomensHistoryMonth throughout March by sharing videos each Wednesday highlighting time spent in different Knox County Schools Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) classrooms taught by female teachers. Today’s video features a visit with Karns Middle School Math teacher Dr. Rebecca Layton who teaches math in unique ways allowing students to think critically and work together to problem solve. “It’s just wonderful to see someone like her who has an advanced degree but has come back because she realizes the impact she’ll have on the lives of young people,” said Mayor Jacobs. Layton taught middle school math for six years before earning a doctorate degree at the University of Tennessee. She taught multiple STEM education courses for teacher candidates during her time as a graduate assistant and clinical professor at UT. She then decided to return to her passion of teaching math to middle school students. “I missed teaching kids so much that I came back so that’s why I’m doing what I’m doing,” said Layton. “I love being in middle school helping kids believe in themselves and believe that they can do anything so I’m right where I want to be.” Mayor Jacobs said celebrating women in STEAM is important for young girls because it shows them that women can succeed in technical fields—industry typically driven by men. The Mayor has already shared his visits with Gibbs Middle art teacher Dorothy Verbick and STEM teacher Lauren Downs, South Doyle High STEM teacher Kathleen Devinney, Hardin Valley Elementary STEM Educators Jessica Everitt and Jana Yra, and West Valley Middle science teacher Bethany Saunders.
