Many books claim to be life-changing, Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations is a rare one that actually is. Marcus was not just a stoic philosopher but the greatest emperor of Rome. And the exciting promise of his Meditations is that you can be like him: effective, resilient, and tranquil. The stoic ideal is available to all humans. There’s just one problem, the Meditations isn’t an instruction manual that you can just apply to your life, in fact it’s not even a book. Marcus Aurelius wrote it as a personal diary containing fragments of wisdom but not his full philosophical worldview. I’ve spent the last few months studying with and interviewing the greatest stoic philosophers alive to bring you a summary of the missing philosophy behind the meditations. (PART OF) WHY I QUIT TRADING Everyone that says they’ll start giving back “once they make X dollars or achieve Y” is bullshiting themselves. Bc there will ALWAYS be more money, more things to achieve. I’ve NEVER once seen someone say enough and magically start help others if they weren’t doing so already. People wrongly assume I only started giving back post-Trillium. I was always doing so (at smaller scale) and always enjoyed it and felt fulfilled when I did. I recognized there will always be more money in the markets or more trophies to win. But unlike most, I also recognized I had enough. What you can’t have enough of is helping the world around you be better. We need as much of it as we can get. We ALL win when we work towards being our best happiest self that also gives back. My presence on Twitter sharing trading knowledge is with the intention of modeling the power of giving back. If I can help 50k people see the world even 1% different, that is my win. I started Impact Competition in 2017. This video highlights some of the real difference I’ve made in the world. You matter too. Three ways to give back: money, time, or wisdom. Energy moves and flows, it is never destroyed. The levels of energy we encounter can be low, negative or high, and positive. We are a human node in a network of energy and we can be a positive transmitter or a negative one. It always reminds me of the situation of ‘a recession’ If a recession occurs, everyone freaks out and the widespread beliefs of ‘we’ll make less money, it’s harder to get a job’ become accepted by others But during The Great Depression, MANY millionaires were made. This example shows that you should always have the internal perspective that things can go well for you. Because when we filter energy and ‘the world’ through our chosen, positively intensifying one, we help those around us by magnifying the good and reflecting it back to them. And that’s a powerful thing!
