Bestselling author Jason Reynolds’ new children’s book was inspired by a photo of people dancing in a library, celebrating Langston Hughes. He hopes the story encourages children to see the library as “a place for freedom.”

As promised, here’s the full video of Thomas Hammock’s impassioned remarks on the state of the transfer portal. Hammock briefly highlighted his own experience as college athlete, saying he considers the lessons he learned in college more valuable than any financial incentive. “I would do it again for free — *for free.* Because of the things I learned. That’s why I’m standing here today: because of what I learned in college. Not because of how much somebody gave me.” 🎥: NIU Athletics

Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden is so superb, so remarkable, so respected in the library community around the country. As a former library commissioner myself, I appreciate Carla Hayden and her excellence. Trump firing her is arbitrary, capricious and shameful! -NP

What is now called the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (part of the Library of Congress) was established in 1931. By 1934 the service was distributing sound recordings called "talking books," along with braille materials. That means we’ve been in the talking book/audiobook business for close to a century! Here’s a look at how audiobooks for NLS patrons are made today! #WorldBookDay

I asked Opus 4.6 in Claude Code to build me Borges's Library of Babel. An hour later it delivered this. The AI implemented a Feistel cipher so each possible book has a real location, you can search for text across the Library & find the book. Enter it:

A cat train in Japan. It was opened in honor of the cat Tama, who worked as a station attendant in the city of Kinokawa. The entire train is dedicated to cats, and it even has a library.

Elderly Jewish Americans subjected to HORRIFIC ASSAULT in a library. A group of Jews reading books in a library in Asheville, North Carolina were attacked by masked pro-Palestine activists. The elderly Jewish group were punched and assaulted while their attackers screaming that they “Don’t give a f*ck about your age” and blaming them for the situation in Gaza. H/T Kosher
