As Tranmere Rovers regularly played on a Friday night, Saint & Greavsie would always show the goals from their matches the following day. The pair would often refer to them fondly as ‘Little Trannie’ or ‘Our Friday night favourites.’

Half Man Half Biscuit once famously turned down an opportunity to appear on The Tube on a Friday night because Tranmere were playing at home.

What was the reason for them playing so often on a Friday night ?

I think it was originally planned to avoid clashing with Liverpool and Everton Saturday matches and draw in more neutral fans. Also an era where most teams would rearrange if there was a race meeting in their town/city, so Aintree forced a few too.

Think Stockport often played on a Friday too around that time.

Ian St.John was a good presenter with good football knowledge, & Jimmy had played the game at the highest level. It was perfect telly. ⚽

Used to love going to Rovers on a Friday night then watch the goals on Saint & Greavsie! Saint lived on the Wirral and briefly played for us hence his soft spot for Tranmere!
