I am horrified by what happened in Minneapolis. Another civilian shot in the street by Trump’s DHS. This is beyond unacceptable. I will continue to oppose ICE funding and to fight for real accountability as we see federal agents repeatedly use deadly force without consequences.

As I said, things will continue to escalate at the Broadview ICE facility until harsher methods are used. They are obstructing, throwing objects, and physically assaulting ICE with little fear of arrest. Experienced Portland DHS agents need to be brought into Chicago.

I was trying to deescalate the situation outside Delaney Hall and I was pepper sprayed along with other protestors by ICE. Governor Mikie Sherrill fund legal services for those in detention or facing deportation now. ICE's terror will not stop and we cannot continue to comply in advance.

Yesterday, JVP members and over 300 New Yorkers staged a sit-in at the offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, demanding they vote to block the sale of U.S. weapons to the Israeli military. The circumstances remain unclear, but the FBI is responding and has opened an investigation. We are told that the agents involved are with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, not ICE. Again, the FBI will be leading that investigation. We are expecting statements from the FBI, as well as from local leaders, as soon as City Council reconvenes. Here’s Kat Abughazaleh, whose running for Congress in Illinois, encouraging people to continue impeding federal ICE agents until they can get the ICE facility in Chicago “shut down” She states that protesters will be showing up every Friday from 7-9am and won’t stop until the facility is closed. For the last 2 weeks they’ve been blocking ICE vehicles and impeding officers which is a federal felony and here’s Kat encouraging people to continue to do so, instructing them to bring gas masks if tear gas is deployed. Deploying masked ICE agents is not only a public safety risk, but a complete sacrifice of public trust. If someone resists arrest because they think an ICE agent is fraud, they will be prosecuted. The lack of transparency and humanity from this administration is not only destroying the people’s faith in government—but disrupting innocent lives. I will continue to use my voice and my vote against the inhumane conduct at DHS.

Today we witnessed yet another escalation in this administration’s war on immigrant families. We saw mothers torn from their children, as they were detained until false pretenses. We saw community members assaulted by ICE agents while exercising their right to protest. These actions are an abuse of power, and we will not stand for the fear and instability they are causing to our communities. They want to divide us through fear and intimidation, but today, we chose solidarity.
