What a tragic case! George lost his life & there was no justice for the victims. George Stinney Jr was falsely convicted at the age of 14. He was accused of killing two girls, Betty (age 11) and Mary (age 7). The bodies were found near the house where George lived with his parents. Before his execution, George spent 81 days in prison before he was ever able to see his parents. He spent this time in solitary confinement, in a jail 80 miles from the city. He was questioned without the presence of his parents or a lawyer. His trial lasted only 2 hours, and the sentence was handed down 10 minutes later. The boy's parents were not allowed in the court room, and was subsequently expelled from that city after the trial. During his trial & until the day of his execution, George always carried a Bible in his hands. On the day of his execution, they used the Bible he was carrying as a booster seat because he was too short for the adult sized electric chair. 70 years after his execution, a judge in South Carolina finally overruled George's conviction. It was determined that the beam used in the murder, which weighed more than 19.07 kilograms, would have been too large for George to lift. There was no way he could have used it to strike the victims. ‘The Green Mile’ by Stephen King was inspired by George's case.
