Associated Press: “Does the Secretary-General have any comment on a published report that he is trying to push through a second term for UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk without consideration of any outside consultations or candidates?” 🇺🇳 UN Spokesperson: “Look, the Secretary-General is following the resolution and following... the rules. The resolution that creates the post of High Commissioner for Human Rights says that that person is appointed for four years with a mandate that can be renewed for a further four years. Consultations have been had with member states. There is now a process that will go underway in the General Assembly and I can tell you everything is being done above board and in a very transparent manner and in accordance with established rules and regulations. And I will add of course that the Secretary-General has very much appreciated the work that Volker Türk has done in his term as High Commissioner for Human Rights.”show more
