Looks still. He is doing ~17,500 mph with the ship. Same stack as Challenger. That is how you stay close. The leave-the-bay speed is small — a few hundred feet on nitrogen thrusters. Fog is a teaching overlay only. Vacuum has no wind. If he froze and dropped the 17,500, the shuttle would go without him. First untethered walk. MMU. Feb 7 1984. Courage on the edge.
