"Asylum is not charity. It is a right, a fundamental human right." At #UNGA, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen shared a deeply personal call to defend the Refugee Convention, reminding us what is possible when those forced to flee are met with compassion, dignity and safety.

This right is being abused to an unimaginable degree today. There is eg zero need for Afghanis to come to Europe. They can flee to Pakistan or Iran. The only reason that 99.9% of “refugees” come to Europe is economic. But this is no “fundamental right”. The Austrian President should come down from his high horse.
