Local MP Mark Pritchard has raised concerns in Parliament about Home Office plans to house asylum seekers in Stoke Heath, near Market Drayton. Stoke Heath has around 60 homes, with plans being pushed to place up to 121 asylum seekers in the village. Shropshire Council says it does not know exactly who will be moved in and insists the decision is being made by the Home Office, not the council itself. Local residents are demanding answers about the impact on housing, services and the safety of their community. We must offer our support whenever it’s needed, as with Crowborough. This is unacceptable.

Speaking at an event in London, Shabana Mahmood also said that a small number of failed asylum seekers will be offered an “increased incentive payment” of £10,000 per person to leave Britain under a pilot scheme.
