VIDEO | Former India captain Mithali Raj has backed Smriti Mandhana to succeed Harmanpreet Kaur as captain of the Indian women's cricket team in the longer formats (Tests and ODIs) when Kaur's tenure comes to an end. "I think Smriti should captain India in the ODI format. She should also be considered for the Test side," she said. Shafali Verma is Mithali's preferred choice to lead the T20I side, and she believes India needs to groom more leaders in the national set-up. "For T20Is, however, I would prefer someone younger. Shafali's strongest format is definitely T20 cricket. She has already captained India to the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup title, so why not consider her?"

Indian men team has never done something like this, we say in front of media but I never seen they gave the credit to previous generation. They always talk like my generation team is better than yours. But this women team, Anjum Chopra was there, Mithali Raj was there to see them in delight. You are the people who sprinkled the seeds & water are the seeds that are standing as winners today & I see this as fascinating. Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s cricket star and a global icon of Afghan cricket, said during the Cricket World Cup that he hopes Afghanistan will one day field a national women’s cricket team. This is not the first time he has spoken out. After the fall of Afghanistan, Khan called for Afghan women and girls to be allowed their right to education. He emphasized that women should also have the chance to play cricket and that the ICC must take this issue seriously.
