"The Golden Touch" (1935) was Walt Disney's first directorial effort after five years of producing, as Walt had grown frustrated with his team and wanted to personally show them how it was done. But the result was… not it. The short flopped critically and creatively. Walt never directed another cartoon, and it remained a source of embarrassment to him for years to come.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released 88 years ago. Walt Disney used live-action actors as reference for the film. Scenes were acted out shot-for-shot so the animation would move like real cinema. At the time, this was considered a reckless gamble.

Before Pirates of the Caribbean ever carried guests through burning towns and cannon fire, Walt Disney walked America through it on television. In 1965, on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, Walt previewed the attraction while it was still unfinished, explaining how guests would travel through caves, treasure rooms, and a full pirate battle. At the time, this level of Audio-Animatronic movement and storytelling simply didn't exist anywhere else. This wasn't just a ride preview. It was Walt setting expectations for what themed entertainment was about to become.
