He hit 11 HRs this season, along with 61 RBI and only 7 strikeouts the entire season! Jax also went on the mound as a closer from time to time this season. INF Kodey Shojinaga (Kansas Baseball) is an intriguing Sophomore-eligible prospect. Was outstanding as a true Freshman and hit .378/.421/.526 with 11 2B, 6 HR, and 32 RBIs. Also slashed .326/.396/.349 across 11 games on the Cape. Shojinaga was named Co-Freshman of the Year in the Big 12 and earned a Team USA invitation. Medium build at 5'10", 190-lbs with some physicality in the lower-half. Slightly open front side in the box with a normal handset. Holds bat horizontally over his back shoulder with the barrel pointed slightly back. Medium-high leg kick, but the stride itself is small. Little bit of a bat wrap, but he's consistently on time. Average bat speed. Hit over power profile right now, but Shojinaga has an advanced feel for the barrel and plus bat-to-ball skills. Last season, he sported a 93% overall IZ contact rate. Approach is sound, but sometimes chases down/away. Does a nice job of using the whole field and working inside the baseball. Would put a 55 on the pure hit tool. Sound defender at 2B with above average arm strength and makes the plays he needs to make. He has quick hands and some range in either direction. Shojinaga also has experience catching, and got some reps behind the plate this summer for Team USA. Will be interesting to see what it would look like if he focused on catching - actions need refining, but the arm strength is there. Shojinaga will need to really hit, and he's capable of doing so. Broke the Prep Baseball Super 60 average exit velocity record back in February, while coming in 2nd overall in max exit velocity ever for the event. 3B Kevin Bazzell (Texas Tech Baseball) is sneaky one of the best pure hitters in this year's Draft class. In his first full collegiate season, he slashed .348/.453/.572 with 24 2B, 10 HR, 62 RBI, and more BB (45) than K (32). Tied the program record for most doubles in a season and was named First Team All-Big 12. Extremely simple setup in the box with a minimal stride and slight barrel tip. No wasted movement, takes a direct path to the baseball. Does an excellent job of consistently staying inside the ball. Level swing, barrel is in the hitting zone for a while. Hit over power profile, but the hit tool is a strong 60 with above average power to the pull side. Has an advanced approach along with plus bat-to-ball skills and plus feel for the barrel. Last season he worked a 92% overall IZ contact rate, including an absurd 96% IZ contact rate against FB. Converted catcher, can pick it over at 3B and continues to get better with time. Been thinking a lot about this… if this progression was adopted across all recreational baseball we’d be creating more baseball lovers. Ages 4 and under: no baseball game play. Only practice/fun stuff if anything at all. I believe we are pushing kids away from the game exposing them too early. Ages 5-7: Tee ball. Asking kids to hit a moving baseball at this time isn’t necessary. Let’s solve for action and reps. ELIMINATE RECREATIONAL COACH PITCH! Coach pitch can only be executed properly with professional coaches who throw consistent strikes understand how to deliver reps. IT DOES NOT WORK AT SCALE WITH REC. I’ve seen enough to feel strongly about this. Ages 8-9: Machine Pitch. If someone would invent a pitching machine with an arm that was mobile they’d make a lot of money. I know about the slingshot and I think it’s a good start but not quite it. Ages 10-12: Kid pitch. No earlier. Practice pitching/throwing in practice starting at age 8. Just finishing up my third year as a head coach within Little League but I’m also coming off of 16 years of running a massive youth baseball organization in Northern California so I have seen enough to confidently make these conclusions.

Been thinking a lot about this… if this progression was adopted across all recreational baseball we’d be creating more baseball lovers. Ages 4 and under: no baseball game play. Only practice/fun stuff if anything at all. I believe we are pushing kids away from the game exposing them too early. Ages 5-7: Tee ball. Asking kids to hit a moving baseball at this time isn’t necessary. Let’s solve for action and reps. ELIMINATE RECREATIONAL COACH PITCH! Coaches, here is an extended look at #uncommitted 2026 Jobe Reed's (Benjamin “Jobe” Reed) dominant 11 strikeout CGSO last night in front of ✭Five Tool Texas✭. Reed has easily been one of the best pitchers in the state this season. The numbers are ridiculous... in his seven district/playoff starts so far this year he has only given up four earned runs in 45.1 innings of work. 74 strikeouts to 13 walks and 18 hits! Plus fastball from a low slot that gets a ton of swings and misses. Sweeping slider that freezes right handed batters, and he consistently throws it for a strike. Big time changeup with good late action. By my count, he had twenty whiffs last night against a lineup with a bunch of guys committed to play at the next level. He is also a very good athlete that hits third in the lineup for Colleyville (tripled to the wall in dead center last night). Elite Strike thrower and proven winner... get on this guy!
