COACHES: Here's a power play tactic I'd love to see more teams employ. Carolina has a player below the goal line on the opposite side you usually see. This allows him the ability to skate toward the net with the puck on his forehand ready to make a play. In this clip he finds the bumper player for the goal. If there's no play he can skate it around the net to find the bumper or look for other options like a player coming down the dot line or a cross-crease pass to a player sliding down to the back door. Great job by Ehlers and something to think about for your PP set up!!

And when I thought about it, I found that there were few films totally devoted to love, even though they are often the greatest in the history of cinema. It's rare, even though it's the beating heart of our cinephiles. Interviewer: What movies were you thinking of? Sciamma: 'Titanic' (1997), for example. It's a real influence, which I recently revisited. Both films are about the memories of a love affair, almost behind closed doors. Here's something I've been working on for a long time. Butter Flavored Butter Does Not Contain Butter is an industrial metal song with a guest vocalist most of you know and love and some of you really hate which makes it even better. It started as a joke sent my way that that phrase would make a cool avant garde industrial metal song title (thanks Ceri J Phillips 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌲) that grew from there. I kept thinking about how pertinent artificiality layered on top of artificiality was to so much happening right now. Turns out there's a name for that, which is Baudrillard's concept of hyperreality, something I learned about on the New Discourses podcast. Wokal Distance has a way to explain hyperreality that is really useful too (which has something to do with his current pfp). George Soros' concept of reflexivity feels like where the rubber meets the road with hyperreality, the weaponization of the concept. So this song describes both. We are in a virtualized, hyperreal world, likely more than any of us realize, in ways we don't realize. It'll be on YouTube, Spotify, Apple etc soon, but thought I'd show it to you all first here.

I don't know what the equivalent of Moody's manuals or anything would be now, but I would try and know everything about everything small, and I would find [opportunities]. But you have to be in love with the subject. You can't just be in love with the money. You've really got to just find [the opportunity]. People find other things in other fields because they love looking for them. A biologist looks for something because they want to find something. I don't know how the human brain works that much. I don't think anybody understands too well how the human brain works. But there's different people that just find it exciting to expand their knowledge in a given area. I've had the luck of meeting a lot of people that are unbelievably smart in their own arena and do some unbelievably dumb things in other areas. So all I know is the human brain is complicated. But it does its best when you find out what your brain is really suited for, and then you just pound the heII out of it from that point. John Badham on how he filmed this brilliant scene in "Stakeout" (1987) & what matters the most in a movie: "The challenge of making 'Stakeout' (1987) was to make a lot of divergent elements stay together. Trying to blend comedy and violence in a smooth, realistic way is very difficult. There's one part of the picture, for instance, where there's a tender love scene between Richard and the girl [Madeleine Stowe], then a horrible nightmare sequence, then a passionate s€xual interlude and then a farcical chase with Richard in drag - and all of it happens in less than five minutes. Pulling off something like that is a real test. The trick, which I think I mastered, is to accomplish it all without inflicting audience whiplash. To me, making movies that work in such a way that the people watching don't really feel your presence is what it's all about. So many directors want to show off the fact that they're using a mini-cam for this shot or a helicopter for that one. I don't think those things matter. If they don't help the story, who cares? I tell everyone who works for me, from the guy getting the coffee to the studio head, that all that matters is 'the picture that comes out. I'm always saying that, and the key is always the story. Whenever I'm stuck, I'll inevitably ask myself, 'What part of the story am I trying to advance here? How do I do it?'
