100 years of life. A lifetime of service. Today, we celebrate Dr. Mavis Gilmour on her 100th birthday. Before entering Parliament, she was a pioneer in medicine as the first woman surgeon in the Caribbean. This background in healthcare preceded a long career in public office focused on building national institutions. As Minister of Education and later Minister of Social Security during the 1980s, Dr. Gilmour led the expansion of the Jamaican school system and managed the country's social safety nets. 🚨 The Chinese Communist Party–backed Party for Socialism and Liberation is making a major push to mobilize high school students against deportations. They are enraged that the superintendent of the Marietta City School District in Georgia, along with the principal of Marietta High School, stepped in and stopped students from walking out of class to protest a cause many of them likely know little about. This is what the PSL said in response: “Footage from Marietta High School in GA this morning shows hundreds of students being physically blocked by administrators from participating in a student-organized walkout in defense of immigrants and others being terrorized by ICE.” “Reportedly, the superintendent of the Marietta school system attempted to physically restrain students as they sought to assert what they claim are their constitutionally protected First Amendment rights to assemble and peacefully protest.” “This despicable behavior—intimidation and harassment of students by school administrators—should be condemned by all, and those responsible must be held accountable.” “The PSL stands with the thousands of students across Georgia courageously walking out of class today in protest of the racist mass-deportation machine.” There needs to be a full financial audit of PSL and another NGO that are pushing underage students into political protests, especially when those actions escalate into violent situations. $I think ignoring pro-government mobilization in Iran weakens ability to provide realistic analysis. The key is to separate: -regime capacity from regime legitimacy -short-term survival from long-term stability -protest movement setback from protest movement defeat A key part of Iran’s political reality today—one that shouldn’t be ignored for the sake of wishful thinking—is that the state has managed to bring sizable pro-government demonstrations onto the streets across multiple cities, even amid its brutal crackdown. This of course does not confer legitimacy on the Islamic Republic, nor does it erase the scale of repression, the hundreds confirmed killed so far, or the horrific violence obscured by internet shutdowns. But it does matter for assessing the immediate viability of protests or the efficacy of a US military attack on the country. As of now, there are no confirmed reports of major elite splits or security-force defections, though under conditions of near-total information blackout it is impossible to gauge the depth of internal fractures. What is visible is a state that has doubled down, relying on repression and foreign intervention narratives to rally its base. This suggests that a critical mass sufficient to topple the system has not yet formed. But it would be a grave mistake to conclude from this that the Islamic Republic can simply restore the prior, already highly volatile balance that existed between itself and society. The protesters’ message to the ruling elite has been unmistakable: coercion can no longer compel consent. Fear barriers have been breached. Iranians have en mass risked bullets to demand change. The state may suppress this round of protests, but without meaningful political and economic transformation, the conditions that produced them will persist. I am likely going to prison in Australia for 2-3 weeks for the crime of holding a blank sign at a protest outside the Brisbane Chinese Consulate in 2022. They want me to pay a $23,000 fine but I can’t do it so I face possible contempt of court charges on August 6. I told authorities I would peacefully surrender and accept imprisonment. We have a two tier legal system. They give people community service and bail for machete attacks and rape. But if you are a peaceful law abiding citizen they will just totally crush you with the full force of the state. I am willing to be made the first Australian political prisoner in decades, I will dutifully accept my punishment and serve sentence as a prisoner of conscience.

Sun lights up the face of Ramses II, Temple of Abu Simbel in biannual illumination : A rare solar alignment caused the sun to shine on the face of King Ramses II in Abu Simbel Temple for 20 minutes, announcing the beginning of Egypt’s flood and growing season. This unique phenomenon takes place just twice a year, once on October 22 to mark the King’s birthday and the beginning of the growing season, and again on February 22 to celebrate his coronation and start of harvest season. The sun also shines on statues of the sun gods Re-Horakhte and Amon-Re, seated next to Ramses II. The statues sit in the company of the Theban god of darkness, Ptah, who remains in the shadows all year. On these two days, the temple opens its doors for tourists at 3 am in order to facilitate viewings of this special occurrence, which lasts for just 20 minutes. Thousands of tourists line up in what is known as the country’s “longest tourist queue” in order to witness the sunlight penetrate sixty meters into the temple, lighting up the king’s face. Ramses II was the third pharaoh of Egypt’s 19th Dynasty. He is regarded as the most powerful and celebrated pharaoh of Egypt, and was the husband of the famous Queen Nefertari. The king was responsible for numerous military campaigns that expanded the empire, as well as the construction of temples and statues throughout the region. Abu Simbel was built by Pharaoh Rameses II (d. 1213 BC) between 1279-1213 BC, to celebrate his domination of Nubia and his piety to gods, principally Amun-Re, RaHorakhty and Ptah, as well as his own deification. It is located 250km southeast of Aswan, Egypt. The original temple was positioned on the bank of the Nile, but it was raised up 300m by an international relocation project supported by UNESCO. This mammoth engineering effort was undertaken between 1964-1968, to prevent the flooding of the temple by rising waters of Lake Nasser caused by new Aswan High Dam. The interior of the temple is inside sandstone cliff in the form of a manmade cave cut out of the rock. It consists of a series of halls and rooms extending back a total of 56m from the entrance. As you walk to rear of the temple you come to the Holiest of Holies located at the back wall, where you will find four statues of Ptah, Amun-Re, Ramses II and Ra-Harakhte. This temple is unique, since sun shines directly on the Holiest of Holies two days a year; February 22, King's birthday, and October 22, date of his coronation. Because of the precession of the equinoxes, current dates are one day later than original dates for which the temple alignment was designed. As promised, another #E2V1 video for #Dec 🌍✌️ This footage is more laid back but in some ways provides a better feel of #E2V1. ⬅️full version It is very important to note that this video is a mixture of #WIP footage taken throughout the year during development & testing of: 1️⃣ 🌴 the implementation and testing of our global biome system 2️⃣ 🌊 our water system which not only looks nice, but spans the entire planet and for the most part handles correct directional flow of water mass 3️⃣ 🍁 the early stages of our seasonal system, facilitating for the transition of vegetation and environments into spring, summer, fall and winter 4️⃣ 🧍 early testing on our NPC system with simple navigation and various states of animation to clearly convey their feeling or current activity 5️⃣ 🐟 early testing of our first animal system spawning various sea animals into bodies of water in various locations 6️⃣ 🚢 further testing of our logistics system, with vehicles and ships moving on, over and through the terrain 7️⃣ 🏢 further testing of our megacity system, pushing the limits for larger megacities with an awesome view distance You will find little bugs if you look hard enough so it's important to understand it's a #WIP! Object 478BEM1 (T-80UD) in Arizona, USA. Likely en route from the Yuma Test Range, 2025. The vehicles were supplied as T-80UD but are upgraded T-84 (Oplot). Video source ( Due to insufficient funding, full-fledged units equipped with T-84 tanks (Object 478DU9), adopted by the Ukrainian army under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 237-5 dated 08.02.2000, could not be formed. Only a pilot batch of 10 tanks was produced and delivered to the troops. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense lacked funds for a lump-sum payment for Oplot production, so payments were made in installments. Part of the amount was covered by Ukrspetsexport per agreement with the Ministry. Consequently, four tanks, paid for by Ukrspetsexport, became its property and were sold to the USA in 2004 for the Aberdeen Proving Ground in modified configurations (three as Object 478BEM with Drozd-1 active protection system and one with an air conditioner). In 2020, to maintain the operability of its T-80UDs, the USA purchased 6TD-2E engines from Ukrspetsexport, along with 49 Kombat missiles and GD-1 aerosol grenades.
