“Sugar Town” isn’t one of my favorites of my records, but it hit the top 5 and became one of my biggest hits. Putting together an album around it proved to be quite the challenge. “Sugar Town” was basically LSD, but wasn’t publicized as such. It was Lee’s “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.” The song went against my image, which made it tough to choose songs for the same collection. In the end we decided to go with Dixieland Jazz standards standards and called the album Sugar. My friend, Ron Joy, shot the cover photo. I thought wearing a bikini by the beach was kind of commonplace, but a bikini in ugly weeds, a little kookie. I wanted something that was different because I knew the idea of a bikini on an album cover would be shocking in the first place. A screen was placed over the photo because it was way too graphic for the day. It was pretty much the first of its kind and the label was afraid of it. The bikini is tame by today’s standards, but when the album came out it was quite provocative. In fact, it was banned in Boston! A newly remastered Sugar joins Light in the Attic’s Nancy Sinatra Archival Series on November 29. Preorder CD and vinyl: 👉

The series is credited as one of the first animated television series to use motion capture technology for the CGI sequences in "QuestWorld," the virtual reality environment featured in the show. It was a novel approach at the time for an animated series. Because it was so ambitious, we had two separate teams working to keep up with the schedule. As crude as this might look, it was groundbreaking given the fact that it was done on a TV schedule and budget.

ollie was asked who of the veterans on the grid would be a good mentor to rookies and the host suggested carlos ollie: “i rate him very, very highly. i mean, when i was a reserve driver with ferrari and i was listening in on all the debriefs and the detail and the way he's able to describe what he feels in the car is incredible. because it's one thing feeling it and often i was finding, okay, i'm feeling the same thing as this guy or esteban, for example, but carlos was able to describe it to the engineers in a way that they could improve the car. i think that's such an important quality to have.”

37 years ago today, Jungle Brothers released their debut album Straight out the Jungle, on Idlers/Warlock Records. laid the groundwork for a full-scale roll out of the Native Tongues, further cemented on the Jungle Brothers’ sophomore release, Done by the Forces of Nature (1989), and De La’s 3 Feet High and Rising (1989). on its own, the album established Jungle Brothers as a group with a distinctive method to creating their music and vibe, both of which would be intrinsic towards the establishment of left-of-center hip-hop music. though the record was straightforward and a little rough around the edges, the JB’s proved there was a place for their worldview in hip-hop. and we’re all the better for it.

TAP by TAEYONG was introduced as one of the best songs of the first half of 2024 in MUVE music magazine podcast jung minjae (music critic): the song i recommend is TAP by taeyong. it was released on february 26 and was his second mini album. he released such a great album, but then he went off to the military right after releasing it, which was a shame. to be honest, at the time, i worked really hard to try to get him to appear on our show MUVE, but his enlistment date was too close. by the time the album came out, it was already impossible to make it happen. although we couldn’t have him on the show in the end, i can’t help but think how amazing it would’ve been if he had more time to release the album and carry out a variety of promotions leisurely. after all, taeyong created this entire album himself. every song is self-composed. when you think of nct, there’s often a perception that their music is difficult, abstract, and not easy to approach. but this album retains taeyong's unique color while also being very appealing to a wider audience. it’s such a well-balanced work that strikes the perfect balance between artistry and appeal, and it’s such a great performance piece as well. i think TAP is one of the standout achievements in k-pop dance music this year. and the fact that it’s self-composed makes it even more remarkable. i really hope we get to meet taeyong next time!
