Avalanche is slowly becoming the hub for Institutional adoption: Here's how Avalanche (Avalanche🔺), without a doubt, has moved beyond just being another smart contract platform. Now, the blockchain has shifted from the usual "battle" to grab market share in DeFi to institutional adoption. In the past year, some major players like asset management firms, banks, tokenization networks, and publicly traded treasury firms have begun using the network for various purposes. From storing assets and generating yield to settling tokenized products, deploying custom blockchains, and more, Avalanche meets the needs of several institutions. The most recent announcement came from Bitwise, VanEck, and Grayscale, which crossed the 5 million avalanche-2:native mark in combined holdings, with 3.49 million staked tokens. Here's how institutional adoption is forming: 1.) Regulated funds are now staking AVAX instead of holding it. As stated above, three U.S. listed Avalanche spot ETFs, Bitwise's BAVA, VanEck's VAVX, and Grayscale's GAVA, are holding close to 5.1 million AVAX tokens. This corresponds to 1.18% of the circulating supply. 2.) Avalanche is now the settlement venue for tokenized treasuries. BlackRock's BUIDL treasury U.S. fund is now the second-largest holding in the Avalanche ecosystem. At some point in 2026, Avalanche allocation hit over $900 million with a significant weekly increase. Following BlackRock, many other companies created credit instruments, money markets, and tokenized funds. 3.) Custom Layer-1s ensure institutions retain control without exiting the system One of Avalanche's biggest features is creating custom Layer-1s, also called subnets. They offer network security and interoperability while letting you choose validators, permissioned access, gas tokens, and privacy options. Some examples include: - Intain and FIS Global collaboration to develop a Digital Liquidity Gateway on Avalanche L1 for U.S. community banks to tokenize loans and sell them to institutions without changing core systems. - FIFA leveraging Avalanche's tech for a unique blockchain. - KB Kookmin Card creating a stablecoin payment gateway and a unique Avalanche L1. - Evergreen subnet of Spruce attracting participants like T. Rowe Price, WisdomTree, and Wellington, among others, for permissioned settlement. - Progmat, a financial service provider based in Japan, migrating over $2 billion worth of tokenized securities on an Avalanche L1. 4.) Public firms are storing and staking AVAX as part of their treasury management approach Two Nasdaq-listed entities are now treating AVAX as one of their main balance sheet assets. AVAX One currently owns around 14 million AVAX and their equivalents, and the vast majority of these tokens are staked. According to Avalanche Treasury Corp (AVAT), its AVAX balance stands at roughly 15.3 million AVAX as of June 30, 2026. There are several catalysts behind this wave of adoption; First, the Avalanche9000 upgrade lowered the cost and complexity of deploying L1s. Second, finality is sub-second in optimized setups, and most importantly, fees are low. To conclude, nearly 30 organizations in the Avalanche Payments Collective are coordinating efforts on stablecoin and settlement rails. This will further increase institutional adoption.
