When a wildfire grows large or becomes more complex, the local agency in charge may request support from a CAL FIRE Incident Management Team (IMT). So far this year, CAL FIRE IMTs have been activated 4 times to help manage complex incidents. The IMT steps in to take over the day-to-day management of the wildfire, coordinating personnel, aircraft, equipment, safety, and logistics from the agencies working together on the incident. This helps ensure the response stays organized while also allowing the local agency to keep its resources available for other emergencies, fires, and medical calls in its area. As part of that effort, USDA and DOI are accelerating and improving fire prevention techniques to make our forests safer and less susceptible to uncontrolled wildfires through mechanical thinning, prescribed fire, and active forest management. These proactive steps support the more than 30,000 federal firefighters, 400+ aircraft, and all our state and local partners working to protect communities across the country. #SandyFire update - Ventura County firefighters and our mutual aid partners continue aggressive suppression efforts on the Sandy Fire south of Simi Valley. Crews are actively working to strengthen containment lines and hold the fire along the southern and eastern portions of the incident while aircraft support ground operations in steep and difficult terrain. The fire is currently mapped at 1,659 acres with 15% containment. Approximately 900 firefighters remain assigned to the incident working around the clock with helicopters, air tankers, bulldozers, firefighters and hand crews.
