The Jabalpur boat disaster isn’t an “accident”, it’s a system failure. 1) No life jackets at boarding: passengers reportedly got them only when the boat was already sinking 2) Weather warnings ignored despite strong winds and visible risk 3) Crew negligence: survivors allege they were left to fend for themselves 4) No safety briefing, no drills, no preparedness 9 lives lost. Families destroyed. And this was a tourism activity, not a remote accident zone. This raises a bigger question: 👉 In India, are “adventure activities” just profit centres with zero safety compliance? From boating to paragliding to river rafting > Are operators audited? > Are safety protocols enforced or just on paper? > Who verifies weather clearance? > Who ensures mandatory gear is actually used? Because right now, it looks like: You’re paying for thrill… and risking your life due to negligence. Until strict, enforceable national safety standards are applied these tragedies will keep repeating. Accountability must go beyond compensation. It must include criminal liability.
