Works only for some roots... 9,16, 36, 49...and more would give wrong results...

Square root of 9 is 9-2 = 7 ( wrong ) Square root of 49 is 4+9 -2 = 11 ( wrong ) An easier method is to find upper and lower bounds. 10x10 = 100 15x15 = 225 20x20 = 400 e.g. for 289 Last digit 9 can come only from 3x3 or 7x7. Answer: Between 15 and 20 is 17 100<196<225 => 14
