A Few Thoughts on Robotics The criticism that robotics can only be used in a rather one-sided way is, at the same time, the solution to the problem. What do I mean by that? Since the Industrial Revolution, humanity has increasingly made production methods more efficient. Fordism introduced assembly line work, but this comes at the expense of monotonous, repetitive tasks. On the one hand, immense wealth has been created; on the other hand, countless people suffer from repetitive tasks, which are a direct consequence of that industrial revolution and the division of labor- in other words, assembly line work. The debate about whether AI and robotics could impact the labor market is answered in different ways. I have a clear opinion on this: Up to now, technology has merely been an augmentation, an improvement of human labor to make it more effective. Robotics and AI, however, represent a qualitative break with this situation. For the first time in human history, it won't be humans who become more efficient, but rather replaceable, insofar as human augmentation becomes *less* efficient than replacing human labor with robotics. In just a few years, a human using technology will simply be less efficient than a robot that doesn't know an eight-hour day, weekends, or holidays, but can perform monotonous tasks 24/7 on an assembly line without breaking down due to physical ailments or needing medical attention. Wear and tear simply means replacing specific parts of the robot. To return to the initial question: production doesn't require general-purpose robots capable of performing a wide variety of tasks, but rather specialized robots that excel at the specific tasks for which they are needed. Figure02 vividly illustrates why this is only now possible: even the simplest assembly line work still requires delicate manual dexterity because the production line is designed for human hands. This breakthrough has now arrived, but AGI (Automated Generating Intelligence) isn't necessary for robots to be used in production processes. It's sufficient that they can perform monotonous tasks. Job = U { Tasks, Judgment, Relationships, Context, Ownership} Few jobs are truly at risk of replacement by AI - these involve more deterministic IO (Input Output) execution e.g. data entry, QA, CS etc. Most jobs are resilient because: (1) Human principals (business owners) always seek to assign responsibility & blame to a human agent. (2) Deals get done not because of outbound spam but because of years of nurturing a relationship (showing up at conferences, events, meet-ups) (3) The physical world is messy AF. Humans read non-verbal & subtle cues which are only possible via in-person interactions. The midwits are right - AI is taking over tasks. In fact, if AI hasn’t taken over tasks for you then you’re doing something very wrong. If tasks are automated & workflows are changing, jobs won’t be lost. In fact, to manage the messy transition, humans will be more in demand than ever before. The data from Foundation Labs itself points to this (watch to the end of this rant)

If you do nothing else today, do yourself this one huge favor: turn on the Codex Chrome extension. It's surprisingly fast, but the speed is not the point. The point is, if you're a knowledge worker, you can have Codex perform routine browser tasks for you. It frees you to do higher value work. I've used it every day at work. There's no reason a human should have to spend their time manually manipulating a browser for routine tasks. Your job is to be a human being and create. Let Codex be the computer.

If you look at it compared to even the base transformer, you get way better generalization properties." "When the model uses an RLM (Recursive Language Model) after it's trained on these short tasks, it will see some kind of trajectory of actions that it does. Between these two problems of different lengths, the RLM learns to see them as almost the same problem." "Token for token, they're almost the same. You can describe it in code.
