Good morning FT

Bouaddi's development was ridiculously fast. This is one of the most interesting parts of his story. Bouaddi joined Lille's academy in 2021. Initially he played with younger age groups, but Lille rapidly moved him upward. He started the 2022–23 season with the U17s, was promoted to the U19s and impressed sufficiently to train with the senior/N3 group. Lille eventually gave him his first professional contract in August 2023. And remember: He was only 15 years old when he signed that first professional contract. Lille's announcement described him as 15 years and six months old when he signed a three-year professional deal. That tells you how highly the club rated him before most football fans had even heard his name.

We're so lucky

We're very lucky 😀😃

Mini Rodri

He'll be better than Rodri 💯 Rodri was not this good at 18

He's just 18

Just 18 brooo

Yeah

Na so if I hear

You guys are not ready for Maresca and his weapons of anhilation 💣🔥

BASIC IDENTITY Full name: Ayyoub Bouaddi Date of birth: 2 October 2007 Age: 18 Place of birth: Senlis, Oise, France Height: about 1.85–1.86m Preferred foot: Right Position: Central/defensive midfielder Nationality: Moroccan internationally; born in France Current club: Manchester City Former club: Lille OSC Manchester City contract: Five years, through 2031. He grew up in Creil, north of Paris, and began playing football at around six years old with local club AFC Creil. Lille spotted him and brought him into their academy in 2021, when he was around 13–14. So basically, Ayyoub Bouaddi was around 8 years when Pep Guardiola signed for Manchester City 😭🩵💝 wake me up man 🔥

Ayyoub Bouaddi is going places...gosh! he's so mature on the ball

I agree with you completely Hos game doesn't like like someone who's 18

Ayyoub Boauddi has been an immmense talent these few years, especially as everyone saw in the FIFA WORLD CUP game against Brazil and his entire campaign! Manchester City have gotten their hands on a younger version of Rodri and the rest of the clubs say and watch it happen🥵🔥

Very well agreed 💯 Ayyoub Bouaddi's talent is not a hidden one. I see him as someone who loves to be the best at whatever he does.

But he isn't Rodri 2.0 yet. This is an important distinction if you're writing about Manchester City. Bouaddi has been compared with Rodri because City need to rebuild their midfield after Rodri's departure. But that's a projection, not an established fact. Rodri is one of the greatest defensive midfielders of his generation generally but the best for me, even better than Sergio Busquets himself 🥱 Bouaddi is an 18-year-old who has only just arrived in England. The more accurate description is: City see Bouaddi as a long-term midfield cornerstone who has the tactical and technical profile to develop into an elite No. 6/No. 8. The Guardian reported that City see his reliability and tactical discipline as particularly valuable.

His 2025–26 Lille season was the real statistical breakthrough His development wasn't just hype. In Ligue 1 during 2025–26, Bouaddi recorded approximately: 30 appearances 28 starts 2,320 minutes 1 assist 85.3% pass completion 62 tackles 27 interceptions 1,528 touches 30 Ligue 1 appearances, 28 starts and 2,320 minutes, with 62 tackles. Another statistical database records approximately 59 tackles, 27 interceptions and 151 recoveries in the league. The exact totals can differ slightly between providers because of different statistical definitions, but the overall picture is consistent: Bouaddi became a regular, high-minute Ligue 1 midfielder before turning 19. We can also remember many moments of Rodri's clutch goalsss and assists- Bouaddi is 18, he will develop that ability considering how he constantly finds himself in scoring opportunities just like Rodri himself.

Then came the 2026 World Cup This is where his profile exploded internationally. Bouaddi was selected by Morocco for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. And rather than simply being there as a teenager gaining experience, he actually played a significant role. He started Morocco's opening match against Brazil, playing the full 90 minutes. He then started against Scotland. He did not play against Haiti, but returned to the starting XI against the Netherlands, Canada and France. According to FBref's match logs, he started five of Morocco's six matches and accumulated 381 minutes. Morocco reached the quarter-finals, where they lost 2–0 to France. And yes—the irony is beautiful: Bouaddi's World Cup ended against the country he had represented throughout his youth career. #AyyoubBouaddi

Ayyoub Bouaddi also broke a Ligue 1 age record. Bouaddi didn't remain a European-cup curiosity. He made his Ligue 1 debut against Brest in October 2023. That made him the youngest player to appear in Ligue 1 in the 21st century at that time. So within weeks of turning 16, he had already: made his professional debut; started a European competition match; become Lille's youngest-ever first-team player; become the youngest player in UEFA European competition; and broken a Ligue 1 age record.

His Brazil performance was a major breakthrough FIFA specifically highlighted his performance against Brazil. At only 18, he played with remarkable composure against a major international opponent. FIFA described him as one of Morocco's leading candidates for the tournament's Young Player Award and highlighted his fearless performance against Brazil. That tournament significantly increased his international profile. And it happened at exactly the right time. Because the biggest clubs in Europe were already monitoring him. #AyyoubBouaddi

He can play more than one midfield position This is another reason he's so valuable. Bouaddi has experience operating as: No. 6 — defensive midfielder No. 8 — central/box-to-box midfielder And he's capable of adapting to different midfield structures. His coaches have particularly praised his positional intelligence and ability to understand tactical instructions quickly. That versatility is extremely useful at a club like Manchester City.

He is a baller

Yes he is 🔥🔥🔥

He was originally a France international This is another major part of the story. Bouaddi represented France at multiple youth levels: France U16 France U17 France U18 France U20 France U21 The French Football Federation records 8 U16 appearances and 3 goals, followed by appearances at U17, U18, U20 and U21 levels. He eventually became captain of France U21. So when Morocco came calling, this wasn't a random switch involving a player France didn't particularly care about. France genuinely viewed him as one of their best young midfield prospects.

兄弟你真棒

?😭

I love you bro

Same her man!

The maths/chess story is actually real 😂 This is one of the best details if you're writing a feature about him. Bouaddi isn't simply portrayed as intelligent because he's good at football. According to reporting from people who worked with him, he is genuinely academically inclined. He: completed his French baccalaureate at 16; passed his exams a year early; studies mathematics remotely; has an interest in physics and science; won a national public-speaking competition; and reportedly spends time playing chess. Former Lille academy recruitment chief Mathieu Frison said that while teammates would watch YouTube or listen to music on the team bus, Bouaddi could spend one or two hours playing chess.

His football IQ may be his biggest weapon Former France U18 coach Landry Chauvin has spoken extremely highly of him. Chauvin described Bouaddi as one of the smartest players he had encountered in his coaching career. He highlighted: his ability to scan situations quickly; his ability to take information before opponents; his positional intelligence; his technical comfort; his ability to play multiple midfield positions; his capacity to adapt to changing tactical environments. That's the profile of a midfielder coaches trust. And that's important because it explains why Manchester City were willing to spend so heavily on someone who had only just turned 18.

You're joking bro😂

Watch this lad and enjoy him! Rodri Hernandez was not this good at 18, never! 🥵

But he's not actually a "flashy wonderkid" This is where Bouaddi differs from many teenage prospects. He's not primarily the type of player who generates highlights through outrageous tricks, stepovers or spectacular goals. His biggest qualities are much more subtle: intelligence, positioning, scanning, ball recovery, passing, tactical discipline and decision-making. Lille describe him as a technically gifted box-to-box midfielder capable of progressing the ball through passing and winning it back. Former Lille academy recruitment chief Mathieu Frison gave perhaps the best description. He essentially compared Bouaddi to a computer because when you teach him something, he learns it extremely quickly and applies it almost immediately. That is probably more revealing than calling him a “wonderkid.”

His defensive numbers are particularly interesting For a teenager, his defensive activity is notable. His 2025–26 Ligue 1 profile included roughly: 2.2+ tackles per 90 around 1 interception per 90 almost 6 recoveries per 90 strong ground-duel involvement relatively low frequency of being dribbled past. This is why calling him simply an attacking midfielder would be misleading. He's much closer to a modern central/defensive midfielder who can operate in multiple roles.

He became Lille's youngest-ever first-team player On 5 October 2023, just three days after his 16th birthday, Bouaddi started Lille's Europa Conference League match against KÍ Klaksvík. That made him the youngest player ever to make a first-team appearance for Lille. Lille themselves recorded the milestone. And there was an even bigger European record attached to that appearance: He became the youngest player ever to appear in a UEFA European club competition. He was just 16 years and 3 days old. Lille subsequently highlighted this achievement themselves. That's an extraordinary start to a professional career.

He will so cook

Yes he will 🔥🔥🔥

No, he is not

You will find very soon brother 😀

You will find out soon

Is he an orchestrator or an anchor man?

He is equally both bro. And it really depends on the situation of the game. He's versatile

Why did he choose Morocco? This is an important distinction. Bouaddi was born in France and represented France extensively at youth level, but he has Moroccan heritage and ultimately chose to represent Morocco at senior level. The Moroccan Football Federation confirmed in May 2026 that FIFA's Players' Status Chamber had accepted the request for his change of sporting nationality. That made him officially and immediately eligible to represent Morocco. He subsequently made the switch and represented Morocco at senior level. The decision was particularly significant because he had been France U21 captain.

This is literally a tall pedri

Like brooo 😭🔥 He hit a gem with this one for real 💯

What's him? KDB replacement 😂😂😂

This mid 😂😂😭

This guy will flop in EPL soon 😭

Bouaddi is going places and he'll perform
