Picture this: A motor mechanic workshop in the 1920s. "Area boys" gathered after work, drinking palm wine and making music. Among them was Tunde King, born in 1910, strumming his guitar-banjo and creating something completely new. He took the Palm Wine music of his time—a blend of Yoruba folk, Brazilian, and Cuban sounds—and transformed it into something distinctly Yoruba that would define Nigerian music for generations. In 1936, Tunde King made the first Juju recordings with Parlophone/EMI, releasing over 30 records on 78rpm shellac discs.
