The average annual salary in the U.S. in 1932 was $1,368 so Ruth was doing rather well for himself. He famously never wore the same underwear twice. $75,000 in 1932 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,727,151.46 today. Babe was a bargain before Free Agency and TV rights kicked in.

At age 37! Ruth could’ve hit .000 and he still would have been worth that contract bc of all the people he brought out to the ballpark!
