All-time NFL legend Mean Joe Greene grew up in Temple, Texas and endured a lot playing in the Prairie View Interscholastic League (PVIL), the league of Black high schools that lasted from 1920 to 1970 because of segregation. "It wasn't the best sometimes," Greene tells PaperCity Magazine. "It was difficult, but we didn't know it was difficult. . . At halftime, we didn't go into the locker room." That is partly because there weren't adequate locker room facilities and PVIL players had to change outside in some cases, sometimes in the rain. That is illustrated in the new documentary film The PVIL Story - Separate ... But Equal? that Hall of Fame Houston sports writer John McClain helped produce and did the interviews for, traveling around the country to get. Enjoyed getting to see the doc in a star-studded preview screening this weekend. Hope they do an outtakes version of all the interviews because after hearing the stories from players like Greene, Ken Houston, Johnny Roland and Jimmy Johnson (whose high school team lost to a PVIL team in an all-star game) in the film, you want to hear more. Absolutely spot on about Amorim this, and I said exactly the same after the match last night!! - There is NEVER a Plan B, it's so fucking annoying when the game is there to be won late on at home under the lights of Old Trafford and what did the manager do? - He took off a defender for another defender in the 88th minute at 1-1 and stayed in a back five playing the same slow and negative way...I don't fucking get it!! We had Mainoo and Lacey on the bench, we could of gone to a back four and gone for the win, it's just ridiculous!! Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada or Jim Ratcliffe, hell even all of them, needs to pull their finger out of their arse and come out of that huge dark cloud their clearly hiding in and speak to him because it's not good enough at all, you need to be able to adapt to certain in-game situations but all he does is stick to one way, we seen it vs. Everton as well when they went down to 10 men after just 13 minutes... he changed nothing... stayed in a back five, he has showed last two winnable home games zero fucking desire to go and win either game, unbelievable! I (Skander Garroum) wrote an essay a while back about Europe's strange denial around air conditioning, the cultural conviction that AC is an American excess Europeans are too virtuous to need. This station is that denial poured into concrete and glass. The intention was admirable: build a station that stays comfortable without the energy cost of mechanical cooling. The execution ignored that the building's own form (sun-facing glass, an open hall) made passive cooling impossible from day one. The deeper issue is that Europe is designing buildings for a climate that no longer exists. The Nantes station was conceived when European summers were milder and a heatwave was a rare event. The thermal model assumed a cooler baseline. Then the baseline moved. Summers that used to peak in the low 30s now push higher and last longer.
