Back in January, Rory McIlory explained how he advised Tom McKibbin not to join LIV, in part because it would limit his access to majors. McKibbin won the Hong Kong Open yesterday which earned him a spot in the Masters and Open Championship next year at Royal Birkdale.

Kipp Popert will become the first ever golfer with cerebral palsy to compete in a full International Series event on the Asian Tour as he tees it up in the LINK Hong Kong Open tomorrow. “It means a lot. I am grateful to Hong Kong Golf Club for the invite. I want to achieve a lot in this game. I want to encourage the next generation of disabled golfers to dream big and provide them with opportunities that were not available to myself. The best way I can do that is by playing good golf - I’m excited to get to work.” Kipp won the DP World Tour’s G4D Tour Championship last week making history by winning 4 G4D events for the season. He also did a remarkable double to win the US Adaptive Open and The G4D Open which took his G4D major tally to 3, with 15 total wins in his short career. After Max Homa qualified for The Open Championship with a second-place finish at last week's John Deere Classic, no one would have blinked an eye if he withdrew from the ISCO Championship. Had Homa known he was in The Open before last week, he would have played the Genesis Scottish Open, he admitted Tuesday at the ISCO. It would have been the more natural preparation for Royal Birkdale, both course-wise and convenience-wise. Even without competing at the Genesis, Homa could've traveled overseas a few days early to begin preparing for The Open, his favorite golf tournament in the world. But he believed his commitment to the ISCO Championship in Kentucky mattered more, and an interaction with a young fan Tuesday validated his decision. "It honestly all got paid back to me by the fourth hole of my practice round yesterday because there was a kid standing off to the side in his backyard with a sign for me," Homa said Wednesday. "It's just those things as you get older, you realize maybe the impact coming to an event can have both on the city and the fans but also on yourself." At 49th on the FedExCup, Homa can earn valuable points toward his FedExCup Playoffs push this week too.

He joked about it ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open: “Birkdale was definitely just a scouting trip for The Open for sure. I would have liked to have not have it known that I was there but Faldo couldn't put his phone away, so -- (laughing.) “I love Nick. In fairness, he's great. I had a good time with him. He walked a few holes with me. “Then I played St Enodoc, whenever that was, last Friday. And yeah, we spent four days down in Cornwall with the Donalds and the Lawries. I had never, like I had never heard of it before, and it's I guess a top hundred course in the world. It's really cool. But that was more just for enjoyment. You're going out to play, but yeah, it's nice, you start hitting the ball off links turf again and start to play in a little bit more wind. Your links instincts come back, even if it is for fun. The stuff that you've grown up with starts to come back to you.” Rory has finished top 10 at The Open in 3 of the last 4 years, with 8 top 10s in total, including a win in 2014. After winning back to back Masters titles to finally complete the career grand slam, it would be great to see him contend again for another major title and further cement his place as Europe’s greatest ever golfer.
