Back in our Basic School days, when we lost a fellow student, the entire school went into deep mourning. For days, the atmosphere changed completely, no laughter, no excitement, especially in the class of the deceased. As children, it was a heavy reality to face, losing someone we sat... with, learned with, and played with. On the day of the burial, a few students, particularly classmates, would be taken to pay their last respects. Even in our grief, discipline was paramount. We were never allowed to wear “koogyan” on our heads or arms. We were expected to appear neat, composed, and respectful, a reflection of the school’s values even in sorrow. There were no loudspeakers, no music, no funeral posters, no elaborate displays. We were taught that the passing of a child was not something to be turned into a spectacle. It rather calls on the spirit of death on young children. It was a solemn moment, one that demanded quiet reflection, not celebration. After paying our respects, we returned straight to campus: no processions, no cemetery attendance, no dancing, nothing of that sort. We were considered too young for such experiences, dancing at the funeral grounds of a colleague student? Chaiii. And honestly, it shaped our understanding of discipline and respect for life. Even through SHS, that standard held for me. I never experienced such. Today, however, seeing school children, especially from missionary schools, dancing at the funeral of a fellow student feels unsettling. It raises questions about how much has changed. In one of the darkest weeks of our nation, I’ve never been more proud of how Christians responded. After Charlie Kirk was assassinated, there were no riots. No looting. No cities burned to the ground. Instead, we turned to prayer. We prayed for his soul, and we lifted one another up in the name of Jesus. That is the kind of response our Lord calls us to. Not violence. Not vengeance. But faith. And because of that faith, we will be steadfast in the face of the wicked. We will stand firm, knowing that Jesus is with us, and we will be rewarded for trusting in Him.

Adel Ferdowsipour's initial reaction to Iran's elimination: Clouds and wind and moon and sun and fate and the post and offsides all came together so that we were eliminated from the competition. But was our presence in a 48 team World Cup an accomplishment? We've previously said this - no. We have the history of being present in World Cups that Asia had just half a slot. And we went there and were present. Is that we were not able to be one of the 32 qualifying teams and get out of our group considered a defeat? A failure, a defeat, whatever we want to call it? Yes. It would be considered. That we did not establish a clear vision for the continuation of our country's football, that we do not have a young team, in six months the Asian Cup will be held, in four years the World Cup will be held, and we have not established any clear vision ... we've talked about this multiple times ... but there was no one listening. Our team came to these matches as one of the oldest teams and ultimately was eliminated from the competition. Did we have the necessary boldness to advance from our group? In my view - no. Could we have played better? Certainly yes. That we did not with the 4 points that they had repeatedly promised and said we will get at least 4 points and definitely advance and this will happen and that will happen ... is this considered a failure? Yes. But - Let's look at the other side of the issue too. Did we not have bad luck? We had a lot of bad luck! The events that happened, like the Austria - Algeria game was the pinnacle ... meaning the events of the games and things that happened lined up in a way that we ultimately do not advance. That in the last few games every single thing that shouldn't have happened did so one after another so we get eliminated ... did we have any luck in this angle? No. But couldn't we have had our fate in our own hands? Could we have played bolder? That we have drawn with Belgium, in a situation where many small teams have stopped big teams and gotten good results ... should it be considered an accomplishment? I don't know.

My Honest Account of what happened last night. I arrived at Epsom expecting to see maybe 20/30 people there. It was only a flash demo after all. But such is the anger and feeling of betrayal in Epsom that there were several hundred people at the station. There were not many police either.They had been caught on the hop.We marched off in a peaceful manor. No shouting. No singing.When we reached the junction we decided this was as good a place as any to hold our protest. We held the traffic up.But I did not hear one motorist complain.Most were locals and were giving us the thumbs up from their cars.Everything was peaceful.And orderly. Then as van after van of riot police started to arrive the atmosphere turned a bit. It was a total overreaction by boys in blue.And one that I have not seen at other demos such as the pro pally mobs that have plagued our streets for the last couple of years. Any major trouble was only averted by the leadership of our guys at the front calling for calm. All we were asking for was a bit of honesty and a bit of dialogue.We were met with riot shields. Well done to the people of Epsom. Shame on the police.

Harold Lloyd on how the stunts in "Safety Last!" (1923) were filmed: “In the first place, we used four buildings. We picked out a structure we wanted for the actual building. Then we chose a two story, four story, or whatever height building we needed. Then we built our own sets on top of them. We started the film with a one-story building and built our set right on the edge of the real building’s roof. We built it so that we could put platforms out and constructed the scaffolding on the side so that the camera man could be up there and shoot down. I remember how we had to put the platform low enough and narrow enough so that the camera man could miss it when he was shooting down at an angle. The platform would be fourteen feet or so below us. From above it looked no bigger than a postage stamp! It was loaded with mattresses in order to break our fall if we did slip as we went through our antics. We didn’t want to commit suicide just to make somebody laugh. But we were always in danger despite this precaution. Falling even a short distance was no small matter. Besides, we could easily roll off the platform because it didn’t have any railings around it. In those days, we didn’t want to divulge how we performed our stunts. We didn’t want to give away any of our techniques for fear of making the public disillusioned with the thrill of it all. Looking back, it seems strange that we would have this worry, for the thrills were far from artificial. The danger, while not as great as it might appear to the public, was nevertheless still very real." The society we abuse today will eventually take its toll on our children, because they will only learn by our example. Everything we are experiencing in our country today is a reflection of the decay of civility and orderliness. When we choose to conduct both our public and personal lives with bad behaviour and rascality, we normalise bad behaviour, lawlessness, and criminality. I watched a heartbreaking video that showed students in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State running for their lives as they were being shot at during their student election yesterday which left 2 students dead and several injured. The question is: Where did they learn it from? Are they cursed, or are we the political leaders who are cursed? When we have chosen to "fight, snatch it, grab it, and run with it" how can we expect our children to do it rightly and democratically when they have learned from us? This is not just disgraceful, it’s a national indictment. When we, the leaders, have chosen to fight, snatch, grab and run with it, our children have learned similar and rascality is now a normal situation. It is now up to us, the leaders, to learn how to restore civility, order, and core values in our society by ensuring that our character and behaviour reflect the change we seek in our society. We must do better, for our students, for our children, and for our country. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

We changed a bit of the choreography on the second day. When we had spare moments on the second day, we would practice. We used our limited break time to practice and make it a different show, so that the fans could feel awed. 🐰: I was going to say the same thing as P'Mi. 🦊: Really? 🐰: Yeah. 🦊: It was a pretty amazing shot. 🐰: Yeah, it was a moment that we didn't dance the same on both days. 🦊: And we thought that very morning like, why don't we make the shows not the same? 🐰: Yeah. And when we were doing the (photo) benefits, the fans might've seen us looking dazed. We were dazed, but inside we were thinking, what should we do? We went to Vegas for our 10 year anniversary and paid an arm and a leg to see all 4 Phish shows at the Sphere. Worth it. No regrets. But no, we were not also ordering $100 pretzel bites or a $370 ribeye while we were there. We spent the money on the actual reason we went. Here’s a clip of First Tube on night 4, which still feels completely insane to watch back.

Back in 1978, when I was just 23, I traveled from Istanbul to Kathmandu with my best friend, Gene. It was quite an adventure for a couple of kids just out of college. There was no way of connecting with loved ones. We didn’t know where the end of our trail was. There were no guidebooks. For us, it was a venture into uncharted territory. It was a journey of discovery, to question our Western values and help us better understand the world. Along the way, we made friends in Tehran, got lost in Lahore, got high for the first time in Herat, battled leeches in Pokhara, and much more. We were free and earnest, but the trip helped us build a better empathy for cultures and humility for seeing what a small speck we were in this world. Almost 50 years later, I still pack along that curiosity whenever and wherever I travel. What drove me to write a 60,000-word journal along the way is beyond me…but with that journal as the basis for my new book, “On the Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer,” you’re invited to join me on what was far and away, the trip of my life.

It was a journey of discovery, to question our Western values and help us better understand the world. Along the way, we made friends in Tehran, got lost in Lahore, got high for the first time in Herat, battled leeches in Pokhara, and much more. We were free and earnest, but the trip helped us build a better empathy for cultures and humility for seeing what a small speck we were in this world. Almost 50 years later, I still pack along that curiosity whenever and wherever I travel. What drove me to write a 60,000-word journal along the way is beyond me…but with that journal as the basis for my new book, “On the Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer,” you’re invited to join me on what was far and away, the trip of my life.

I saw many women freely moving around and riding pillion on motorcycles and scooters. I found the society to be very orderly and well organised...The experience was extremely encouraging. It was a historic moment, and I doubt one will ever witness a moment like it again..."

This is how you bring young people over to the nationalist side. Describe the England that was stolen from us and we so narrowly missed out on. How the children of the Blairite-One Nation project had their inheritance ripped from underneath us and how we will restore it for our own children and grandchildren. Because our generation will either achieve historical greatness or we will be the last generation in over a thousand years of Englishmen. What a magical opportunity we have been blessed to have bestowed on us. We were born into an era thought to be “the end of history”. Turns out history is very much still with us and we hold the pen.

Once the slaughter is over, and it has to be over, there is an expectation that Palestinians should move on regardless of the lives lost, of the limbs lost, of the loved ones lost. There is an expectation that parents will walk the earth with the shadow of their killed children and do nothing about it. The children who are orphaned will hold onto the memory of their parents but not to the anger over how they were killed. There is an expectation that a nation will be able to move on from the reality of parents carrying their children’s remains in plastic bags, of families buried under the rubble or in the sand they found shelter in after everything else was destroyed. That we will be able to move on as a nation from the images of burning children, of starving infants, of the impact that bombs left behind, on the lives of many Palestinians, on their scarred bodies, in their hearts and minds, of the impact that a single bullet lodged in the child’s head or heart has over an entire family forever. We said long ago, we made a choice, to seek justice not vengeance, but we cannot be prevented from seeking either. We cannot continue to be denied our right to life, to liberty, to dignity. We cannot be denied recourse and reparation. No one has a rightful claim to supremacy, to exceptionalism, to domination, to oppression, no one.
