In the late 1970’s, I calculated that we were going to have a global debt default. I was so confident in what that meant for the markets that I went to Congress to share my perspective. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While several countries defaulted on their debt, the impact on markets was the opposite of what I expected. And I lost a lot of money — for me and for my clients. I had to let all of my employees go. But it was the best experience that ever happened to me because it taught me that pain + reflection = progress. And it taught me three lessons that became the foundation of Bridgewater’s success.

Just taken off from London after a week back at home after the Christmas holidays… hardest assignment was getting the kids back to school!!! It’s been a really productive fews days in the putting studio.. Back on the road for a few months, starting with a weeks training camp with #Team🌹 Thanks for all the support and also everybody that entered the Vokey Wedges Ryder Cup Europe competition. 👏🏼

Seeing Spain winning the World Cup… when I came here, I thought about it. I’m still thinking about it sometimes. It’s great. Louis Vuitton had trunks that were carrying the trophy. Alex Fitzpatrick’s start to life on the PGA Tour has been exceptional. After earning membership via winning the Zurich Classic with his brother, Matt, he’s finished T9, 4 and T6 in 3 Signature Events, including a final round 65 yesterday at The Memorial for another top 10. After the round, he was asked if it was good prep for the US Open: “Absolutely, yeah. That played like a major championship out there. It certainly wasn't easy. I think only having two milkshakes this week was probably the key to playing well in the last round. But, no, it's a great test out there. I played really nicely today. I finally holed some putts, so it was nice shoot a low one and see where that leaves me.” He was also asked how nice it’s been to start so well on the PGA Tour: “Yeah, it's really rewarding. I guess that was always the thing after we won, it was, like, how is he going to do, is he going to carry on playing okay. I think that the biggest thing I took really was the win in India. I felt like that was a big weight off my shoulders. That was kind of something that I had wanted since I was young, to win on that TOUR, and I felt like that made it a little easier going into the Zurich not having as much pressure and just trying to enjoy it. “But it's definitely been really rewarding playing some good golf following that and, yeah, hopefully, that stays like that.” Alex says he’s going to play the next 3 weeks at the RBC Canadian Open, the US Open and then the Travelers. He also went to Shinnecock 10 days ago with Matt to check out the course ahead of his US Open debut. The birthday that stuck with me the most was my 7th. I wanted a skateboard so badly back then. Really badly. I saw it, but it was very expensive and also quite dangerous. I had seen it in a sports store and thought, Oh, I would love to have that so much. And my mum, it cost around 80€. Mum ended up surprising me not only with the skateboard but also with the case, I was like, “I can’t believe it!” But really, the case cost another 10€, I was over the moon. I’ll never forget that birthday. Not bc of the gifts themselves, but bc of that feeling of attention and care. My mum worked a lot back then, but she didn’t earn much. #zeudiners

In '82 and '83 I was on the road perfomring shows as a trio...just piano, bass, and drums. What started out to be just a few shows, turned into over 70. It was great to be back on stage with Ian Gardiner who was with me for so many years on the road and in the studio after I went solo.

This realtor showed up at a house that she was supposed to show, as far as she knows the house is empty. She walks in and starts to setup for a showing and hears loud noises from within the house, startled, she runs out of the door struggling to get a rational explanation. Working on so many houses throughout the years, this hits close to home for me. I’ve experienced this more than I can count. There was a house that stuck with me, when I was renovating it, I even moved in to make it easier for me. It was a small 2 bedroom home, about 1100 sq ft. One day while working in the attic I felt a tug on my hair. This was when I had long hair and I tied it up in the back. But it felt like a pronounced and intentional tug. Later on I was able to confirm it was a child due to the small stature on the SLS camera. It explained the mischievous nature, of course it was a kid that liked to play pranks. The occupants in that home were never malevolent. Just curious. When asked how many there were on the spirit box, a voice proclaimed there were 7 of them. If you had spirits in your home, would you want to know? I know for the longest time I didn’t want to know, I figured it didn’t matter since I couldn’t see them anyways. Now, every time I enter a new home, I always run a sweep for activity. Not surprisingly most houses have a few occupants already present, they just choose not to be acknowledged.
