BANNON: One thing that’s not being talked about, I’m a Catholic, the Catholic Church has massive problems, particularly around LGBTQ. One thing not mentioned here is the Mormon Church. This is not just a Utah problem. The shooter’s Mormon. I think the furry is Mormon.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (often referred to as Mormons) has one of the strongest stances against LGBTQ behaviors among the mainstream religions. Because of this, when a member falls into those behaviors and sins, they often become extremely resentful towards the church and the hatred of ex-Mormons towards the LDS church is more intense than anywhere else. Salt Lake City has a significant community of ex-LDS people, that’s why you see so many of those flags downtown. They do not represent the general beliefs or attitudes of active members. The LDS church affirms the acceptance of people who identify with LGBTQ+, but it does NOT affirm that those that act on those feelings or participate in any of those kind of romantic relationships are doing right by God. It is emphatically sinful and has always been taught to be sinful. Basically, love the sinner, not the sin. Tyler Robinson and his boyfriend were part of that group who had left the church and very likely hated the church. This has nothing to do with the LDS church, its leadership or its teachings. It has everything to do with Satan beguiling the minds and hearts of our youth. The data shows that young people who remain active in the LDS church are the MOST well-adjusted, the happiest, the most spiritual/devout, and the most well-rounded of ANY religion. As we say in the church “hold to the rod”, and if people do that, the odds of a happy, fulfilling life are off the charts high.

Bannon knows there’s an issue with Mormons in Utah but he can’t articulate what it is. It’s not the core belief systems or doctrines of the church. There’s been a major shift in Mormon culture to accommodate and accept explicitly antichristian beliefs and practices in the name of tolerance and “love”. The leadership of the church has lost the moral authority to call it out.
