Baran Studio was the architect for this 88 unit volumetric wood modular project, which is permanent housing for the homeless in downtown Oakland. Completed in December of 2024, 1888 MLK was leased up immediately after completion by Housing Consortium of the East Bay (HCEB).

You can house and feed the homeless but they will still be deeply antisocial and broken the rest of their lives. Likely will become homeless again even with the housing.

Money laundering I looked more into this and apparently of as of right now in 2026, construction and renovation is finally underway, with an expected opening in late 2026 Clearly this is a lie. Since the property still looks horrible and nothing but windows has been done The cost is $640,000 per unit for just 32 apartments.
