Thoughts on Harrison Butker’s commencement speech. I’m not a fan of religion, nor some of the views pushed by religious people that negatively target specific groups. But, people need to relax about Harrison Butker’s commencement speech at Benedictine College. Here’s why: Benedictine College is literally a Catholic school where nearly all, if not all students are Catholic. These are the religious views that they have whether you like them or not. 90,000 people signed a petition calling for his dismissal from the Chiefs. Just stop. Move on to more important things. He wasn’t speaking as a member of the Chiefs or NFL. He was speaking as a member of the Catholic faith to other catholics. I’m just tired of cancel culture from both sides.

Harrison Butker is right. He didn’t say a woman’s career wasn’t important. He didn’t say women couldn’t get an education. But if that’s what you got out of that speech, then it wasn’t for you to begin with.

Here are my thoughts on Harrison Butker. Today there are people who are outraged over the comments made by Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs. Butker, as seen below, in giving a speech at Benedictine College, said “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you." He went on to say: “How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.” There are people calling for the Chiefs and the NFL to blackball Butker from the league. I despise the ideas and words that Butker put out in the public realm. I think this mindset is an insult to women from all over the world. I think its misogynistic, and disrespectful. With this said, the same people who are outraged over Colin Kaepernick allegedly being blackballed from the league, are now calling for this man to be blackballed. He's wrong, but is that a crime? Should his life be ruined because he shared his thoughts at a Catholic college, where many of the students likely and unfortunately agree? I don't think so.
