Bash: DHS isn't funded is because you're holding out for changes to ICE, yet now you're fine funding TSA, which is your biggest leverage. ICE already has its money. So what was the point of the shutdown? Jeffries: We never approach government funding in terms of leverage. Doesn't matter... show more

Dana Bash catches Hakeem Jeffries OFF GUARD — exposing that Democrats have NO real plan behind their DHS shutdown right to his face. “What was the point of this shutdown if you’re okay with funding TSA?” Jeffries had no answers. BASH: “Now what you’re saying is that you’re okay with funding TSA, which has been, I think, the biggest point of leverage that you possibly had in order to get what you want on on ICE, because ice already has its money.” “So what was the point of this shutdown if you’re okay with funding TSA?” JEFFRIES: “Well…we never approach these things that are in front of us with respect to government funding in the context of leverage, our approach is what is the appropriate use of taxpayer dollars?” “And we believe that taxpayer dollars should be used to make life more affordable for the American people, not brutalize or kill them, or violently target law abiding immigrant families, which is what we know ice agents have been doing.” Bash was unsatisfied with the answers and pressed again. BASH: “I’m just trying to understand how if you fund TSA and the other agencies that you just talked about, how do you think that you will be able to put pressure then on the administration to make the changes to ICE that you’re asking for?”

Dana Bash just called out Hakeem Jeffries right to his face, live on CNN. Jeffries was spinning wildly, claiming ICE has gone “completely out of control” and needs to be reined in through DHS reforms tied to funding bills. But Bash hit him with a very inconvenient fact that completely undercut his narrative. JEFFRIES: “We know that ICE is completely and totally out of control. They’ve gone WAY too far. And the American people want them reined in.” “So dramatic changes are necessary to the manner in which Department of Homeland Security officers are conducting themselves before any funding bill should move forward.” BASH: “So you say very clearly that this — and it’s clear in your proposals — is about reining in ICE and CBP.” “But those agencies, as you well know, are already very well funded through the Big Beautiful Bill Act — that’s what the president called it — and it passed last year.” “So what that means is that a shutdown would really only impact unrelated agencies.” “FEMA. TSA. FAA.” “So how does pushing for these changes — and potentially not getting them — actually help rein in an immigration crackdown?” So this is all for show. Narrative, obliterated.

NEW: House Minority Leader Jeffries says ICE shouldn't receive funding to "brutalize or kill American citizens in cold blood." The lack of funding to DHS has impacted TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. ICE remains fully funded regardless. This is due to the Big, Beautiful Bill.

Fox News’ Shannon Bream: “There’s a winter storm coming to your [district]. Why take away funding from FEMA, TSA, the Coast Guard, and others when ICE is fully funded? Why not reopen the government?” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY): “Republicans control the House, the senate, and the presidency.” Shannon Bream: “You know that they cannot move forward out of a shutdown without Democrat votes.” “You are not going to shutdown ICE as part of this shutdown.” Hakeem Jeffries: “We believe that this moment should be used to make dramatic changes to ICE.” I know rocks with a higher IQ than Chuck E. Cheese Obama!

🚨 JUST IN: Sen. Rick Scott EVISCERATES Senate Republicans for CAVING to Democrat demands in the government shutdown battle "What's our leverage?! The Democrats get EVERYTHING they want! Everything! They get all their earmarks, they get everything they want, and we're sitting here when the biggest issue we have in this country is securing our border and making our communities safe right now, and it doesn't get funded!" "This makes NO sense to me." WILL CAIN: "I don't know that your question is simply rhetorical, is it? What is your leverage? How are you going to keep this from happening?" SCOTT: "There's NONE! There is no leverage. I mean, I'm not going to support this, but I'm one vote! I mean, I tell people, you've got to get...Americans have to get, you know, riled up about this!" "The fact that ICE might not be funded in two weeks, but in the meantime, you know, TSA, FEMA, I mean, this makes no sense. We have no leverage after this." CAIN: "And just to be clear, it sounds like you have no leverage DURING this either. And so the only real check on the Democrats' ability to control the negotiation for the continued funding of our government is public outcry? Is public pressure? Is constituents saying, 'how dare you shut down our government to get Kristi Noem fired?'" SCOTT: "Right. That's it. The only leverage is the American public says enough is enough. We're tired of earmarks. We're tired of wasteful spending. And we want to make sure ICE is fully funded so we can secure this country."

GOP Rep. Garbarino: "If their goal is to stop the funding of ICE, shutting down the rest of DHS is not going to accomplish that. They already have the money and they already have their orders. So the argument that not doing a Homeland bill and having a shutdown is going to somehow stop the ICE officers -- they know that's not the case."

🚨 HOLY CRAP. Hakeem Jeffries just tried spewing BS lies on national TV and got CALLED OUT for it in real-time! JEFFRIES ON GOVT SHUTDOWN: We should pass the 5 bipartisan bills! MACCALLUM: Dems were ALSO OK with the 6th DHS funding bill! This, we should REMIND people, these SIX bills were signed as part of the last shutdown, they were ALL agreed to until what happened in Minneapolis. Minneapolis was a unique situation, you're NOT seeing it anywhere else in the country! So why hold up this funding on a bill both sides agreed to?! JEFFRIES: DHS was before the cold blooded k*lling of Alex Pretti! MACCALLUM: This feels like you are holding the government HOSTAGE, how the agency runs — DIFFERENT from Appropriations bill. Hakeem IS A JOKE!

🏛️Dems march toward the most pointless government shutdown ever They say they want to strip funding for ICE... but ICE is funded until 2029. A shutdown will imperil funding for FEMA... in the middle of winter storms. Are they that foolish? Sure looks like it.

Hakeem Jeffries: “We’re shutting down Department of Homeland Security Funding — because we want an explicit prohibition that ICE can go nowhere near schools, houses of worship, hospitals, and polling sites in the United States of America.” So… Joe Biden allowed millions of illegal aliens to invade the U.S., many on which are on terrorist watchlists — and democrats are holding hostage the funding for DHS, the very entity that protects the homeland. Got it. The filibuster must be nuked.

Shutting DHS down has zero impact and zero changes for ICE. ICE already has $75B in funding from the BBB that I did not vote for. But it will hit FEMA, Coast Guard, TSA and our Cybersecurity Agency. As a Democrat, I can’t vote to shut down critical parts of our government.

Democrats say this is about ICE. It’s not. ICE is fully funded. A DHS shutdown would instead stop disaster relief, disrupt TSA, and impede Coast Guard operations. Chaos for the American people just so Democrats can try to make a point.
