CNN’s Dana Bash got embarrassed live on her own show as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent flat out rejected her entire framing on tariffs. She tried to turn it into a $134 billion reckoning, but Bessent came armed with the facts. She was left scrambling. BASH: “I do want to start with the big question. Will you refund the roughly $134 billion in revenue taken by these emergency tariffs?” BESSENT: “Well Dana that’s not the big question.” BESSENT: “Let’s just level set here what the Supreme Court did was a very narrow reading of the president’s authority under the IEEPA tariffs. BESSENT: “We have other tariff authorities which have been functioning section 232 tariffs, section 301 tariffs and Dana, when you say it’s a big question, that’s bad framing because the Supreme Court didn’t even address that.” BESSENT: “The Supreme Court remanded it down to a lower court.” BESSENT: “And we will follow what they say but that that could be weeks or months when we hear them. So the supreme court did not address refunds.” BASH: “Sure. They didn’t address refunds. That is clearly going to be up to to you, which—” BESSENT: “No, no, no Dana, it is not up to me.” BASH: “Not…not…you…” BESSENT: “It is not up to the administration. It is up to the lower court. Let’s just be clear on that.” The “big question” wasn’t so big after all.

Bash: “As the treasury secretary, it's hard to believe that you don't have an opinion or know where these revenues, over $100 billion, are going to go, or have an opinion on where they should go." Bessent: "I had an opinion, and the court did not agree with my opinion."

Rep. Beatty to Bessent after he refuses to answer a question about affordable housing: "No no. We're not gonna to do that with me. You get to hear my wrath that you refuse to answer a question under your authority, and yet you've talked about the value of housing and you're not releasing the funds."

🚨 HOLY SMOKES! Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent just rhetorically bodied a Democrat congresswoman who understands NOTHING about dealmaking & foreign policy. Clown show. VELAZQUEZ (D-NY): "Specifically, which countries are you close to striking deal with?" BESSENT: "I'm sorry, Congresswoman, but that would not benefit the United States." VELAZQUEZ: "No, no, no. I'm asking you a question based on the statement that you made on CNBC." BESSENT: "And I am telling you that it would be detrimental to the interest of the United States for me to answer that question." VELAZQUEZ: "Why would that be detrimental?" BESSENT: "Because as the negotiations may still be in process as we speak, as we are not at the end of the week yet, I am sure that you, through your question, would not want to compromise U.S. negotiations." VELAZQUEZ: "Reclaiming my time." BESSENT: "Would you?" VELAZQUEZ: "Why would you not answer my question? And that would be considered detrimental to the American people, to the American economy. I do not understand." BESSENT: "Congresswoman, I'm happy to say there are negotiations going on. I'm not going to reveal the details."

Bash: "What the Supreme Court said is that it is not the executive's function to do these tariffs. It needs to go through Congress, and that is what the Constitution says." Bessent: "That is not correct."

QUESTION: If prices are down and not up because of tariffs — why is Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent saying they’re going to lower tariffs on coffee, bananas, etc to lower prices? 🤔 ANSWER: Because they are lying. Tariffs are a tax on you, and prices are UP.
